Please make an online pledge for cycling event to benefit cancer research
I will be participating in the 2004 Tour of the North Shore on May 16. This event is an annual fund-raiser for the American Cancer Society and I am seeking pledges for my 50-mile ride.
In exchange for my pain and suffering (not really, I love to ride), you can have the satisfaction of assisting a worthwhile cause.

Details on the ride can be found here: http://www.bikenorthshore.com/

I've already paid the $30 entry fee so any funds raised through this page will benefit the American Cancer Society.

You can make a donation through Amazon here:
http://www.amazon.com/paypage/P1GXOO6AUQCVCU

If you would like to make a donation in someone's name, please post it in this thread.

If you have a story to share about how cancer has effected yourself, a friend or family member, please do so. I think it is important to put a face on the statistics.

Good luck with this ride, and good luck on meeting your fund-raising goal. The American Cancer Society certainly is an extremely worthwhile cause.

:hi:

Peter

EDIT: I notice this ride starts in Skokie and goes through Evanston, where I grew up. Alas, you won't see the 'childhood home of pmbryant', since the ride doesn't go through southern Evanston, though. :-)

Very much appreciated.

Sorry I won't see your childhood home. Is there a historical marker? :P

Close to your house, by chance?

5. Not too far
Maybe 6 or 7 blocks.

And it's only a block away from the street my parents lived on when I was born (Brummell St.).

4. And I am the second
Thank you so much for doing this! My grandmother died from breast cancer when I was 12, after a grueling, seven-year struggle. So, thank you for your efforts here - I really appreciate it.:hi:

10. Well, did YOU make a donation?
Or do you just love cancer in a Republican sort of way? :P

11. I've been collecting sponsorships at work as well
and I'm up to $75 there.

Would it help to say that if I reach my goal, I'll slap a DU bumper sticker on my back?

13. My goal for the Amazon site
is $300 and when I reach that, I'll wear the DU sticker. I'm surprised that I haven't gotten a few more donations. I really thought this would be a good idea.

17. Thanks!
For the kick. This isn't doing as well as I had hoped. :-( Perhaps I should just let it die.
