For me, Friends... I am sick of hearing about the end of this show.
I never thought much of it to begin with.

3. Agreed
Funny how much that show is hated in the lounge.

Must be that old saying (here) that if it is popular, it can't possibly be worth a damn.

10. Hey there...now you can't say the show sucks if you've never seen it!
Although I'm not a huge friends fanatic, I do occasionally enjoy the show. But I don't understand why people are so against something they have never "experienced".

That would be like me saying that I hate the concept of love and people who are in love just because I have never been in love. (Ok, so maybe that's a bad analogy, but I couldn't think of anything else ;)

I follow the "don't knock it until you've tried it" theory.

I do have to say in defense of "Friends" that many of their shows deal with real life issues that people may experience. Whether it be fighting with your own friends, dating, or even issues dealing with parents. Even if it is in a TV show, it's nice to see how someone else deals with it.

Just my two cents!

Five years ago, I felt the same way about another show I've never watched: "Seinfeld."

8. "Everyone Loves Raymond". Someone please reassure me...
that this loud, unfunny show with some of the most unlikable characters on television...first and foremost Ray Romano...will eventually go away.

15. Cosby Show...WAY too sappy for me...
I will be glad when Friends is finally done and gone. Who cares?
Here in St Louis they are doing the following on the last night of Friends....

NewsChannel 5 is hosting the largest Friends finale farewell party in the country! We're teaming up with 101.1 The River, 92.3 WIL, and the RFT to bring you the Official Friends Finale Party. Watch the final episode on the largest screen in St. Louis at UMB Bank Pavilion Thursday, May 6th. Gates open at 5:30 pm, and the party's free!

Soldiers are dying in Iraq and the "news" station is hosting a Friends party? OY vey!

Here is the type of "investigative" reporting done by the Gannett owned KSDK Channel 5:
Remember the fabulous fifities?! Top stars played the St. Louis clubs, Stan the Man hit a milestone...and teens were dancin' in the 50's...Monday at 10pm.

And we wonder why so many Americans support Bush?

17. so, is what you're saying is...
Edited on Sun May-02-04 08:04 PM by wyldwolf
..the media should only cover Iraq? Iraq news 24/7.

Or the only other news should be of the variety that doesn't offend a certain intolerance for pop culture?

Maybe we should all put our lives on hold until the Iraq war ends and Bush gets the boot?

19. No, that is not what I am saying..
What I AM saying is that the time spent on a story about the supposedly fantastic 1950s could be time spent doing IN DEPTH reporting on what is going on in the world TODAY, in 2004.

I'm all for having fun and all but c'mon...are the 1950s NEWS in 2004? I don't think so.

I think the media would serve us better if we had a bit more background information on things taking place in the here and now.

21. I certainly have an opinion on what is news and what is fluff, but...
... I don't let my dislike for something (in your case, "Friends") drive me into a rant about soldiers dying in Iraq and all TV station W*** will cover is_____________.

I just change the channel.

24. I never said I disliked Friends ...I have no feelings one
way or another. It's a TV show. I think the hype is way overboard.

The reason I brought up the soldiers is because I do think what is going on in Iraq is tad more important than a television show coming to a close.

Surely you don't think local American "news" stations do a good job at giving us complete background information on things that really affect us?

If this same TV station was good at giving in depth coverage to events that have an effect on the lives of their viewers then perhaps I would not think it frivolous to host a "Friends" viewing party at the local amphitheatre. Since Channel 5 tends to do a poor job of actually informing its viewers then I will voice my concern.

25. This is what you said:

So, no, you didn't say you disliked "Friends" - but you might as well have. And you appear, based on that statement, to indeed have feelings for the show one way or another.

But, like you said, it was a TV show. One of the highest rated and most loved in history, mind you, but just a TV show.

And, to address your concern: No, I don't think local American "news" stations do a good job at giving us complete background information on things that really affect us.

For that matter, I don't think ANY "news" stations do a good job at giving us complete background information on things that really affect us.

But that is just my opinion. Others may feel differently. And I vote with my wallet. I don't like the coverage, I look elsewhere. If enough do, they lose revenue, and are forced to either change or go under.
