I've been kinda bummed lately, what with an impending divorce, and some other stuff...
But...
I ended up going back to work and spending my first week on a picturesque rock sticking out of the Juan de Fuca Straight in Metchosin, BC, filming scenes for a rather good Canadian feature called "Cable Beach". I'm just kind of digging the environment and the tranquility, and when the pace of production slowed down enough, I took off and found myself a secluded piece of rock to hide behind, sit in the sun, and read the script for my next project.
About fifteen minutes into my seclusion, I happened to look up, and about 500 yards away from me, a pod of Orca were crossing the straight, cavorting and playing with eachother and with the whalewatching Zodiacs which were silently following at a safe distance.
It was just so cool to think that those magnificent creatures are always out there, even when they're not visible. Our filming liaison says they sometimes swim right up on the rocky beaches and rub against the rocks, to remove barnacles, then slide back into the water. We're just passing through--the Straight is their home, and always will be.
I don't know why I'm posting this, except it kind of cheered me up, and awe-inspired me.
And, when I got home that night, there was a message that a Vancouver-based series wants to hire my mobile recording studio, which is exactly what I need to keep it from bankruptcy.
Good times, bad times, I know I've had my share....
