Did anyone else see that guy drop dead at the Derby?
I'm over here at matcom's house, and we decide to throw on the Kentucky Derby Mudfest And Drunken Colonel Sanders Revue. So we watch the race, and they show the owner of the winning horse. He looks to be about 127 years old, with oxygen tubes in his nose. He's staggering around his million-dollar viewing box yelling "I can't believe it, I can't..."

...and then he sits down and grabs his chest. His two handlers get real concerned and wave over some paramedics or something. Meanwhile, the color commentators are totally ignoring the fact that this dude just dropped dead on national television. One commentator says, "Boy, he won the Kentucky Derby. How do you suppose he's feeling right now?"

I turned to matcom and said, "Well, Bob, I'm feeling a crushing pain in my chest that is radiating down my left arm. There's a bright light in front of me, and I am surrounded by dead relatives."

I guess you had to be there.

1. You mean the guy in the wheelchair?
I didn't see him keel over, but then I don't do the "post-race" crapola.

4. He pulled it together enough to accept the roses
I don't think he had a full-on grabber since he was smiling and all.

6. I'd be surprised if he actually had a heart attack.
Smarty Jones was the 4 to 1 favorite. It wasn't an upset by any means.

10. Yes, watching people die is always so darn comical.
I watched my father die, but you know...it just wasn't a gut buster. Maybe there's something wrong with me.

14. Terry, there is nothing wrong with you.
I didn't see my father die. We had to put him into the nursing home that day (he had end-stage renal disease and was not really conscious) but the thought he died alone in the middle of the night while I stayed home and took care of my mother (instead of him) hurts. But, I could only deal with one parent at a time.

My mother damn near didn't make it to the funeral. Look forward to meeting you sometime.
