I'm using the old Trojan Horse strategy here. The congregation that I will join is already notably more progressive than most, btw. Must be the influence of the nearby campus.:)

college towns are usually more middle class, which means more educated, which means even the Baptists are almost human, usually. Great thing, education. Heh.

(Be sure to take a tape recorder/mini video camera with you in case they politicise or solicit GOP donations in church, so you can get their tax exemption revoked...hehehe...)
