So what should I DU in Moab, Utah?
:D Seems like some DUers knew Moab...

I'm planning a trip out there for a couple of weeks this summer. I know I'll spend some time out in the middle of nothing, walking around and drinking water. Anything special in town? Any not-to-be-missed sights? Festivals or such I should plan around? :bounce:

5. Take a drive along the Colorado River
there are some nice petroglyphs along there. Drive over to the Manti-la-Salle Mtns and do the loop drive. I love the Moab area, lots of great hiking, but prepare for the heat :-).

7. So many fun
things to do there. Infortunately some of the big, "fun" things are environmentally disturbing. HumVee trips up the sides of the cliffs and all around. We went, I thought we were going to be on trails but no. We went wherever they thought they could take the thing. It was fun but I would never do it again knowing that. Float trips are fun if there is any water, there was not a lot when we were last there a couple of years ago. Lots of great hiking and some good horseback trips. It is just such an amazing place you should have fun just poking around. We just hung out, hiked and took lots of pictures most of the time.

9. girls
A million years ago, when I was a bartender in Santa Fe, 3 girls from Moab dropped by for a drink. They were on vacation.

To this day, I still remember how pretty they were. Nice girls, too.

I suggest you check out the local scenery. ;)

12. There's only one thing to do in Moab:
Mountain bike, mountain bike, mountain bike, mountain bike, and mountain bike. Oh, did I mention mountain bike?? If you're a biker and you're in Moab, you're in Nirvana!

18. South of town there is this funky museum.
If you find yourself in need of an indoor activity, it's worth considering. A couple carved a quite spacious home out of solid rock. This was in the 1950's. It has been preserved just like when they lived there, so it's like walking into a time warp. Very strange. They give tours on a regular basis. The bathtub is even solid rock.

Also, there is an independent bookstore that is quite good. It was there the spring before last, at least. Coffee, muffins, cookies, and and excellent selection of books along with a comfy sofa.

And, Eddie McStiffs makes its own beer and has decent food. The Jailhouse has the best breakfast.

I forget the name of the national park north of town, but is fairly
close and has easy or longer hikes, or just drive through.

There are a couple of places to watch the 4-wheelers, that don't require a 4 wheel drive to get to. The locals can tell you. One is just past the sky ride on the river road. I think the sky ride is closed now. But there is a gondola (I think) as you come into town from the north. And a water play place.

Yes, I like Moab. And I don't bike or 4-wheel, so I find other things to do. Have fun. :D

And they have a website. I don't have a link, I usually just google Moab.
