Any Vampire Lestat fans here?
I read about 5 years ago Interview w/a vampire & loved it! Over the weekend I re-read it & want to now read The Vampire Lestat. Can someone just give me a brief run down on what I should expect?I'm turning into a BIG Anne Rice fan!

1. Wow, you're just a decade or so behind, eh? ;)

I'm just kidding. :)

I've read all the Anne Rice books up until about five or six years ago. The vampire books, particularly the first three, are very good. Lestat is better than Interview, but both the first two are better than Queen of the Damned.

Now, if you want the best Anne Rice, IMO, you should read the Witching Hour and all the Mayfair Witches books that come after that. I think they are her best work.

I also very much enjoyed Feast of all Saints and Cry To Heaven, both of which are stand-alone books of hers.

Perhaps you don't know, but she also writes books under the names Ann Rampling and A.N. Roquelaire.

2. It's the best book of the trilogy
IMO.

Been a while since I read it, and I wouldn't want to spoil it for you anyway - but I loved the book.

Now I want to read it again!

4. Thanks Cat power & flamingyouth!
I have heard those are are great books!Probably gonna go out this afternoon & buy Vampire Lestat. I LOVED the interview movie(even with tom Cruise)I hated Queen of the Damned thought(but I REALLY thought the guy who played Lestat in Queen was VERY good)Any word on a Vampire Lestat movie? Heard rumors months ago Anne Rice wanted Polanski to get involved & he was interested but nothing since.I wish they would get someone involved who could really get the feel down & make some decent horror movies again!

7. Servant of The Bones and
Memnoch the Devil are pretty good Ann Rice books
Memnoch is about Lestat

Servant of the Bones is not

The Mayfair Witch books are really good

I have a whole shelf of nothing but Ann Rice
Some of it is pure treasure

Some of it is embarrasing trash

5. I prefered the Anita Blake series...
...by Laurell K. Hamilton. I chalk it up to personal preferences though.

6. me too
The first few books that is - I can't stand her newer works.
But both those series aren't *dark* enough for me - for example the world of "vampire- the masquerade" features some excellent novels.

8. Some of her newer books...
...have gotten too formulaic, I agree with that. SHe also keeps reusing the same plot twists again, and again.

Ya gotta love Edward though. He da MAN!
