Remember when Eugene Levy was funny?
I do. He was so great on SCTV. Now, he's reduced to the most pathetic characters in so-so movies, like the Jewish guy who can speak ebonics and is hot for the big-booty inner-city hip-hop chick (Queen Latifah) in "Bringin' Down the House", and now he's in THE OLSEN TWINS' new movie! With those two, it's GOT to be a bomb.

Check out the "wacky" expression on his face. (sigh)

1. A Mighty Wind
was a great movie. Too bad he feels he has to pad the retirement.

2. Was it really?
The previews made it look so annoying. I liked "Best in Show" well enough, but somehow ridiculing the idealism and sweetness embodied by 60s soul music seems awfully cynical. Correcct me if I'm wrong about the sentiment of the movie.

i just hate to dogpile on the 60's as the root of all that is stupid and wron in our society, as though we somehow "came to our senses" in the 80s (when in reality, that was when everything started going to hell...)

7. I loved "A Mighty Wind"
And I loved 60s folk music. It seemed more to me like a gentle poke at it. I thought it was very funny. It's true that there were stereotypes that could be lampooned.

But then I love all those Christopher Guest movies: Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show, A Mighty Wind.

I'll buy them all.

5. It certainly was a great movie
And as far as I'm concerned, actors take the roles they can get. No less than Michael Caine says that he took all kinds of roles (remember Jaws 3?) for the dough for his family and makes no apologies.

I think we sometimes ask too much of people we admire, particularly artists. They want to be successful, keep their careers going and earn, too. It's a tough biz. I'm guessing that the crappo stuff he does allows him to work for Chris Guest for next to nuthin'.

3. Yes
Yes, I do remember when Eugene Levy was very funny. Earl Cannonbear(sp?), Phil's Discount Nails... sigh. Eugene, come back to us.

6. Remember "Bobby Bittman"?
Edited on Tue Apr-27-04 12:54 AM by Kool Kitty
HOW ARE YAAAAAAAAAA????

On edit: All the characters he did on SCTV were a scream. Remember the Shmenge Brothers? And I loved "A Mighty Wind" and "Waiting for Guffman".

9. By the way, I'm not comparing the Olsens with Latifah.
Sure, the little monkeyfaces have grown up to be pretty hot, but Latifah is GORGEOUS. Beautiful in everyway, a fine actress and performer, and very funny as well. "Bringing Down The House", however was a yawner, typical of Steve Martin's recent "family friendly comedies" He's another one. Who'd have thought "The Jerk" would end up playing a succession of harried upper-class dads in treacly comedies?

10. Do guys really think the twins are hot?
From seeing commercials for the film, they wear more makeup than a proverbial French Whore. I detest the way they'v been forced on people. I mean, they're a giant marketing machine without even the modicum of talent that Britney and Christina et al possess.

11. They're hot.
Not quite moddel beautiful, but very attractive, especially when you consider how homely they were as tots...
