But he'd have to be a musician in the first place, rather than a product of slick marketing.

46. Agree
I wholeheartedly agree. I visited a friend of mine in Michigan last year, and had to listen to those twangy, nasal-toned "singers" for an entire week. I was nice and respectable, didn't say anything about it (even telling her at one point "They're ok") but ugghh- it was killing me. Too much for this NY'er to bear.

15. If Ringo Star is the last Beatle left alive, we will know
1) There is no God.

-- OR --

2) God is a huge Beatles fan and wanted all of the important ones close to her.

Nothing against Ringo, and the Beatles wouldn't have been exactly the same without him, but his solo recording career made about as much sense as The Magic Christian.

I said the Beatles would have been fundamentally different with another drummer.

Um, well, the Magic Christian. I used to enjoy that movie, but then, I used to think that 200 Motels was one of the greatest fims ever.

Approach more soberly at my current age, they are fun trips back to another time and place, but mostly from the purely weird value.

Eric Clapton. Aerosmith. Phil Collins. Kid Rock. Paul McCartney. The Vines (in their entirety). Creed. Bands who sound like Creed. Britney Spears and the corpse that calls itself Madonna. John Mayer. Evanescence. Simple Plan. U2 (except for the Edge, Larry Mullins, and Adam Clayton). Metallica. Pseudo-goth metal bands. Christian rock of any kind. Toby Keith (if you want to sing about how hard it is to be a soldier, you probably should sign up, you asshat). 50 Cent and other no talent hacks who can neither sing nor rap well in addition to being unable to play their own music and writing trite bullshit repeatedly. The Astley-esque blue eyed soul of Maroon 5.

72. Because
He hasn't stopped bitching about being kicked out of Metallica. From 85 to 02 all he did was talk shit. Then he'd claim it was taken out of context, and then call Lars a fuckass. And then he'd say something else. And then apologize again. He can't take the fact that he was kicked out of the band because he was an obnoxious drunk and was not dedicated in his music. He jeopardized the safety and relationships of the other members.

Michael Jackson may be still alive and he may not be a junkie or an alcoholic, but he is every bit as much of a pop stardom casualty as anyone who died young like Cobain, Hendrix, Jim Morrison or Ian Curtis.

He and Keith Richards are prime examples of the Living Dead.

Annoying and stupid. No musical talent, nothing constructive to say. Maybe some talent as a lyricist, but mainly good at tapping into the frustrations of little poser snotnosed teens.

I even think Marilyn Manson is better, and that's saying a lot.

He seems to me to be the most redneck musician on the planet other than Ted Nugent.

I feel sorry for Ted Nugent's daughters. But Charlie Daniels wrote a letter to Hollywood stars speaking out against Bush calling them disgusting anti-Americans and blah, blah, blah.

It was really disgusting garbage that turned me off to Charlie Daniels forever.

52. Why Sammy Hagar?
He's out of Van Halen now, if that's the issue. Is it the whole lame "Cabo Wabo" thing?

I saw him at a VH concert in 1989, with a girlfriend on my shoulders. after being shocked at how short and old Eddie was, I was even more surprised when Sammy came up and shook my hand and gave me a look like "I feel your pain" (She was kinda heavy). He seemed pretty cool to me, the concert was great, and he was a trouper.

I'm sure "Diamond Dust Dave" wouldn't have given me the time of day. Plus I'd have had to look at his repulsive hairy gut and his glittery bodystocking. :puke:

Thank god for Van Hagar!

Edited on Mon Apr-26-04 03:49 AM by drumwolf
William Hung is number one on my list by a long shot. As an Asian-American, I find the whole phenomenon behind his stardom utterly offensive. I have the same reaction to him that African-Americans have to Little Black Sambo.

Britney Spears comes in second, for reasons far beyond the music itself. Is it just me or do other people also think she is the quintessential Moron-American?

I would say Puff Daddy/P. Diddy, except that he kind of has already, thank God.

Then there's Aerosmith, whose '70s stuff I was a big fan of when I was growing up and still appreciate to some extent. But for the last decade their music has been no different from the likes of Michael Bolton or Celine Dion.

I thought the thread was about musicians who should go away. Hung, Spears, Diddy, Bolton or Dion or not musicians. They are singers, and not especially good ones, either.

Now, Aerosmith, i can buy into. From those guys, i say, "That's enough now!"

As for Aerosmith, they may be musicians as opposed to singers, but they are totally in the same league as Spears or Celine Dion nowadays. In fact, Britney and N'Sync even joined Aerosmith onstage when they played "Walk This Way" at the Super Bowl halftime show a few years ago.

Did anyone else who saw that have the same reaction? I was thinking to myself: "Wow. How low can you fall, and is it possible to whore yourself any more than Steven Tyler and his crew have?"

Besides Aerosmith, any of the "nu-metal" bands like Korn or Limp Bizkit. I like loud ear-splitting distortion and screaming as much as anyone -- I grew up on '80s metal, thrash, punk and hardcore, from Slayer to Anthrax to Subhumans to Bad Brains to Poison Idea -- but that "nu-metal" shit is just plain tedious.

Especially Eminem. Just as I can't take those sound clips of Bush trying to sound smart, I can't take the Eminem "flipping the bird" pictures of him trying to look tough. My grandmother could fight that little maggot to a draw, and she's been dead since 1983.
