Question for chopstick users....
I just discovered it's MUCH easier to effectively use chopsticks using my LEFT hand (I'm right handed). Wow...whodathunk it? Anyone else use chopsticks with their non-dominant hand?

1. Yes
I also play the piano, so there is some ambidexterity at work.

3. Use them with my right hand

and I'm right handed. I found one problem that people have learning how to use chopsticks is that they squeeze too hard. Maybe you're more forcefull with your right.

4. Why not just use a fork?.....
I'm more interested in enjoying the food than in trying to master chop sticks....:)

5. You are actually TWICE as likely to be injured with a fork.
(four sharp thingies on a fork)

6. Chopsticks are great for weight loss diets
Especially if you don't know how to use them :-) :-)

10. I know it sounds pretentious, but--
it just doesn't seem right to eat Chinese or Japanese food with a fork. It literally feels funny to me. Silly, probably. But the sticks just work well with those cuisines, especially if you follow Chinese and Japanese table manners, which are rather different from what Americans practice.

I haven't tried using my left hand for chopsticks, but I just tried it with a couple of pencils, and it was a tad awkward for me!

11. Me too!
I worked in a Japanese restaurant in high school. Everyone got a lesson on how to use them, and the rule was that you had to use them with the first course.

If you were still having trouble, then we'd give you a fork.

7. Never tried that, but...
Now I'm going to have to, next time we do a chopsticks meal!

Second question: Square or rounded 'handles'?

8. Ratio of work expended to actual food ingested is too high for me
I used to try and use chopsticks many years ago, cause it was fun and cool. But finally I realized I simply couldn't shovel enough food in fast enough. I've always been a very fast eater, stunning dining companions by how fast I could clear my plate. Chopsticks no longer fit in with my lifestyle so I'm always gauche and ask for a fork.

12. Never tried it, but will next time I eat chopstick food
I can eat anything with chopsticks--if you want to fuck with your family's mind, the day after you come back from Korea eat a bowl of Rice Krispies with chopsticks--but have only tried it with the right hand.

14. Nope. Always with my (dominant) right hand.
I 've never tried using them with my left hand. it's much weaker, so I doubt it would work.

16. I use chopsticks with my right (dominant) hand but in a weird way
Can't quite explain with words... the base of the thumb holds the lower stick against the ring finger, while the tip of the thumb, index and middle finger hold the upper one. Oh, the upper one also leans at the index's third phalanx (close to base).

It works just peachy. I can grab even the huge rolls. Spring rolls too.

17. Also
I use the mouse with my left hand. It feels wrong with the right hand. Everybody assumes I'm a southpaw when they see me at the PC.
