Now I understand that…what to hell is “fore” or “four” in golf? I know it means look out I hooked or shanked the ball and its about to knock you into a six-month coma, but really, couldn't they just yell “look out the ball is about bounce off your fucking skull!”

1. It means to get down on all fours so you don't get hit with the ball

because if you yelled "DUCK", everyone would be looking around for a duck.

I really haven't the foggiest idea why they say four or fore.

my money is on the shortening of "fore-caddie", the name for forward caddies who help spot the ball.

it means that the ball is coming "to the fore".

On most public courses whic I play, FORE! is usually proceeded by an equally loud F**K !!

He almost never blitzed at Miami, playing out of position at mike. I can't wait to see him unleashed off the corner in the NFL.

Oh yeah, fore. I've been shrieking that all week in Palm Springs. Making grip and swing changes and these pull hooks are downright lethal! The 115 courses here are so close it almost seems like I started the hole on one course and putted out on another.

In Miami a few years ago I was waiting to hit my 2nd shot to a par 5. Some teenagers about 100 yards back in the fairway got impatient and hit into our group. A line drive smacked me in the back, without even a whisper of fore! I doubled over in pain while my friend wielded a 3 iron and chased them back toward the tee.

Without exaggeration, the shot left dimple marks on my back that were visible for a week.
