How to maintain a peace between the right+left
I thought I'd ask you guys for advice, after posting a bit here. I'm a liberal, who runs a site that tries to encourage people from the right to engage in debate with the right, without resorting to: YOU SUCK, you COMMIE.

The problem I'm having is that the right seems to have overwhemled the left with tons of misleading posts, images, etc.

My question is, in your opinion, can the two sides actually engage in any meaningful debate, and if so, how does one best create an environment to do so in?

Thanks...

-Sean

2. Welcome to DU, Sean
Most folks on the right are brainwashed and don't know that what they're saying is bogus. Sometimes you can find information on Snopes that the stuff they forward is wrong. Much of it is just conjecture and can't be disproved. "Liberals hate America," for example.

3. Having mature human beings helps
Only a child responds with "You suck, you commie". Shame them and lay down some very strict ground rules.

4. yeah, as soon as you find people from the right who aren't wolves
Edited on Sun Apr-18-04 03:24 PM by ProudGerman
By wolves, I mean hunt in packs. The most common tactic of the right I've seen on sites that are open to both sides, or just not political in nature, is that those from the right attack in numbers. A liberal voice will make itself known, and those from the right will descend in numbers in hopes of drowning that person out.

I really don't think you can do what you are trying to do. Attacking numbers is what they do, especially on subjects they know they are wrong.
