What's with these random word spam emails?
All the sudden, every one of the many spam emails I get has a subject line that is totally random words... not only that, but some of them even have the entire body of meaningless strings.. take this example-

Subject: cremate historic berry greenhouse protoplasmic careen hospice buttonhole rhenish needlework housebreak foss anachronistic crandall mantlepiece cession artemis jacobean husbandry fungible impoverish dateline failsafe canton insulin evansville appreciable ellipsometer adposition illegitimacy ghana scherzo cuddly girlie decolletage fob brian resourceful pickett

Body: Hey,
Just thought that you might want to now that it is finally here.
climax decisionmake histochemic shrink hampshire indenture homunculus breccia freckle pasty frolic arcsine hospice armistice satire kidnap arccos planetesimal microjoule chancel mimicked dollar gobble fluffy depress caretaker menlo extoller licensable poke radio alphonse dave adulate chevalier dreamt burlington gerundial drown himalaya rhenish calendar blockade

I seriously don't even know half those words. What the heck is the idea here?!

1. getting past filters
that your ISP has set up to block spam most likely.

annoying isn't it?

2. Its how they try and sneak past the spam filters
notice the mispellings in the real message too.

most of them just want you to open the mail so the image in the message is downloaded to verify your email address.

3. sadly, you don't even have to open them
from what i've read. Just deleting them notifies they've hit a valid address.
and they'll keep coming...

4. in Outlook XP and up you can turn off images
or auto image download. this protects you pretty much.

they have no way of knowing if you delete a text email.

8. i'd hope that's so
but i remember reading about how any 'activity' on the receiving end of the email (even deleting, or reading etc) triggers an auto-response to the sender, then they know it's a valid address.

all i know, is i delete them, and they keep on coming. I've given up blocking the addresses, there are so many...

5. But what's the point of sneaking past filters
when there's nothing actually in the message?
