Talk about a fucked up weekend
I'm in the Chicago area for my brother's funeral. The guy was 38 and had a massive coronary Thursday. 38 ? What to fuck. I always thought I would be the first one to go out of us 3 kids for being fat, eating like a pig, getting fucked up all the time, and all that. It just doesn't figure.

3. Thanks.
My Mom is really fucked up over it which is normal. I couldn't imagine if I had to bury my kid. I would probably go insane for a week or two.

9. Im okay.
I had my big cry on the drive up here from Austin. I know I will lose it because his wife has all his pictures layed out. It is closed casket. His wife donated all his organs. Someone in Ohio got his liver. They said about ten people will be better off because of the donating organs.

11. Wow! That must have been a difficult choice for his wife
to make (donating his organs). I applaud her for it. Her tragedy has brought others extreme happiness.

It is said that no person may know their time.

Been there, done that. May you and your family find some peace at this time.

10. Bearfan54, my condolences to you and your family
I lost my brother to a massive coronary in May 2002 and it still hurts when I think of him. He was 47. He would be 50 this November.

38 is way young to die.

12. Damn, man, thats rough....Stand by your mom
My baby brother was murdered in 1995 at age 29 and mom never recovered completely. The loss of a child is utterly devastating to a mother-more so than any other imaginable. My heart goes out to you both.

Hang tough.

How terrible for you. My uncle died at 47 and I thought that was young. Maybe you should see this as a wake-up call and start taking better care of yourself. Your family, and your friends on DU, couldn't spare you, as well.

When I get back to Austin I am going to tell Mrs bearfan that life is too short to miss out on it by getting fucked up all the time. This really woke me up.

21. So sorry...
...It's hard enough to deal with the loss of a family member. That it was so unexpected and makes so little sense makes it so much harder. I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. You're in my thoughts.

Edited on Sun Apr-18-04 01:04 PM by mohinoaklawnillinois
Both of my brothers died young. The first in 1999, he was 49 at the time from alcoholism and my eldest brother 56, last April, from colon cancer.

My prayers and thoughts are with your entire family. It's tough to go through, but believe me, things will get better.

29. You have my sympathies
I have not lost a sibling yet, but I have lost my dad at the 'relatively' young age of 66 (him, not me, I was 31 at the time). I have a sister who is in very bad health and for years have been bracing for 'the call'.

You and your family are in my thoughts.

31. I know exactly how you feel
My big brother passed away at the age of 40-- the hardest part for me to bear was he died on my birthday. It took me a LONG time to get over that!

He left behind quite a legacy consisting of friends made closer by his presence, a loving wife and two sons, one of whom recently married.

He helped me a lot over the years and was my best friend, and after 10 years I still miss him.

My condolences and prayers are with you and your family.
