Immigration - A new and cheaper form of slavery
Think about it. In the days of slavery, the slave owner had to furnish his slaves with housing, clothing, food, and keep them healthy. Also,a
healthy slave had an initial cost of hundreds or thousands of dollars.
If we still had slavery today, that would cost the slave owner way more than $5.15 an hour, so these immigrants are a much better deal
than ole fashion slavery.

We pay our slaves in Mexico about $1.00 an hour and our slaves in China maybe 25 cents an hour. Now that's a really good deal. However, for those moving to the US, we have that nasty minimum wage thing to worry about, but it's still a good deal for those poor CEOs out there struggling to make a few million dollars a year. This new immigration plan will now allow them the extra profits to buy a new jet or vacation home in Bermuda. Once the Bush cartel gets reselected in 2004, they can then turn their attention to eliminating the MW.

Remember, the Bush Administration is strictly a business arrangement. It's not really a Presidency. Almost everything he proposes is to help
his friends and family make money. He could care less if the country is totally destroyed.

1. Wish I could disagree, but I can't
Do not mean to minimize the struggles against slavery, but clearly this administration means to place economic control in the hands of an elite, and this is one way they further their agenda. Surely no one here believes that the administration's motives are in any way altruistic. The poster is right about the minimum wage, and a second Bush term.

8. I'd call it indentured servitude n/t
this is basically "seperate and unequal" and will keep wages down.

2. I agree.
Slavery involves "owning" a human being - but these terribly low wages are, in essence, the short-term rental of these same people.

Someone who owned a slave would care at least a little about keeping them alive and healthy - the new slavers don't even care that much.

3. I agree
Why buy slaves when you can rent them? Instead of paying thousands of dollars for a slave that you have to feed and clothe, just throw out a pittance and make them fend for themselves.

5. Makes me wish I was a slave... but what about Lincoln?
As long as you kept your work getting done and not speak up you had all the essentials.

Hmmm, was Lincoln really a great president then?

And if this country is totally destroyed, it's the corporations who have the money (or so they believe) to re-start. A destroyed dollar is worth $0.00. Now multiply $0.00 by 45,000,000,000. Bill Gates would be as broke as the rest of us. Though he deserves it, not us.

6. One difference
These slave masters (corporations bush cohorts) now don't even care about the health of their slaves if one croaks there's another one waiting behind them to get in.

7. That's true
There will be an excess of $5.15 MW and $3.50 under the table workers
available. Summer and part-time jobs for high school and college
students in many areas (construction, lawn care, etc.) will go away.
Hell, I put myself through college doing construction work during
the summer along with various part-time jobs during the school term.

You should talk to people who employ these illegals. Many pay them
under the table and brag about it. They think nothing of making them
work overtime for the regular hourly wage. They pull all kinds of
stunts that wouldn't fly with American workers.
