AMAZING: Politics of Deceit in the House of Bush
Edited on Wed Jan-07-04 12:01 PM by BlueEyedSon
The book "American Dynasty: Aristocracy, Fortune, and the Politics of Deceit in the House of Bush" by Kevin P. Phillips was #112 on Amazon.com yesterday afternoon. CSPAN broadcast an in-store lecture with the author (at a Borders bookstore in the DC area) in the evening and late last night it was at #52.

Now it's #13!!!

I haven't looked for a transcript, but Phillips, a conservative who claims to have worked for Nixon, was shocked that the media has been so oblivious to all the publicly available info there is about the Bushes. He said that the media woke up every morning just to dig up & and dish out dirt on Tricky Dick.....

1. "Liberal Media" at it's best
 That's the ticket. "Liberal Media" repeat the mantra "Liberal Media, Liberal Media, Liberal Media, Liberal Media, Liberal Media." oops they aren't reporting on the BFEE D'oh.

2. I saw part of the discussion on c-span late last night and he slapped the
media around more than once. In just the part that I saw he mentioned their laziness (my characterization) and their lack of digging and putting things together 3 or more times.

Wonder if anyone got the message?

3. I liked Ilene Cooper's comment "Reagan-Bush arranged captives non-release"
Edited on Wed Jan-07-04 11:57 AM by papau
<snip>...he shows how members of that old-boy network become the policymakers of the country. In the case of the Bushes, this resulted not only in money and power but also in links to the CIA, the energy industry, and the military-industrial complex--links that have shaped this country's national and foreign policy for decades. Phillips explains the Bushes' relationship with Enron and the House of Saud in eyebrow-raising detail and adds confirming information about troubling claims, including the notion that the Reagan-Bush ticket arranged that American captives would not be released from Iran until Reagan took office. <snip>

4. Rock on, maybe sheeple will start to wake the hell up and see just what
kind of slime they have been supporting.

5. Read about the book here yesterday. Bought it yesterday.
I came home and in the early evening I caught the last 15 minutes of the C-Span segment of Phillips in DC. Whoa! This is amazing. Kevin Phillips is like the little engine that could.

I am also reading Phillips' Post Conservative America, Wealth and Democracy, and The Liberal Tradition in America by Louis Hartz, and a couple of others on conservatives and liberalism. There are a lot of threads even from the 50's that point to what Phillips has been saying as well about the Republican party.

And how am I reading all these at once? It is a bit schizophrenic. But I started on a mission over the weekend to try to figure out what happened to conservatism in America. It is getting very interesting.

Also, I ordered Michael Lind's Up From Conservatism and picked it up yesterday.
