Hey, David Brooks! Here are your unhinged conspiracy theorist full-mooners
Edited on Tue Jan-06-04 06:42 PM by Stephanie
Yeah David, it's really outrageous that "all these articles" and "web sites" have the nerve to report on PNAC and the neo-con agenda. Since you didn't bother to identify any of these "full mooners" with their "ludicrous" stories, I put together this handy reference guide for you. Next time maybe you can add some cites to your irrational diatribes.

The full-mooners fixated on a think tank called the Project for the New American Century, which has a staff of five and issues memos on foreign policy. To hear these people describe it, PNAC is sort of a Yiddish Trilateral Commission, the nexus of the sprawling neocon tentacles.

To the Editor:

Re "The Era of Distortion," by David Brooks (column, Jan. 6):

I fully support Mr. Brooks's right to take liberals to task for whatever he disagrees with them about; we liberals are recently discovering we have the right to do the same. But to equate criticism of "neocons" with anti-Semitism is not only a weak attempt to deflect genuine criticism of the hawks in President Bush's administration, but it is also a deeply cynical way to attempt to cut off debate. For example, "if you criticize this president or his advisers, you're anti-Semitic."

You could also easily replace "anti-Semitic" with "unpatriotic" or "anti-family," as we've heard from Republicans in the last few years.

I adhere to the theory that a group of hawks or neocons has hijacked this nation's foreign policy. But the religion of the advisers in question is not, and should not, be a part of the argument. It is Mr. Brooks who has inserted religion into the debate.

David Brooks is a lame-ass excuse for a journalist and one of the many reasons why the NY Times has lost much of it's credibility IMO.

Sometimes I feel like I am reading NY's other joke of a paper, the NY Post.

Brooks has the cachet of a "best seller," which somehow gives him the aura of respectable evenhandedness.

he's a smooth operator, to those that spend their news consuming moments delving no deeper than the NYT oped pages or the farleft (ha!) babblings of the neoweezes of the Petroleum Broadcast System/National Petroleum Radio.

keep this list on the front page for awhile.....bookmark it for future reference.

I am sick unto DEATH of the nauseating RW submedia, or whatever TomPaine here has so aptly called it.

THAT is the real enemy....not the pugparty.

19. Outstanding post, Stephanie!
As always.

BTW: America and people who love America need to know ...

The Bushes and the bin Ladens go way back

Chances are that George W. Bush didn't need to be tutored on how to pronounce Osama bin Laden's name, after the President was informed about the events of 9/11 while reading that story about the goat to grade-schoolers in Sarasota, Florida. The bin Ladens and the Bushes go way back.

Like many ultra-rich Saudis, the bin Laden brood has always had a thing for Texas. The patriarch of the bin Laden clan, Mohammed bin Laden, the son of a Yemeni bricklayer who moved to Saudi Arabia and struck it rich in the construction business, flew frequently to Dallas to seal deals with his associates in the oil industry, often in his private jet.

Mohammed died in a plane crash in Saudi Arabia. One of his elder sons, Saleem, died near Houston when his ultra-light airplane hit power lines. Of all the bin Ladens, it was Saleem who had the close relationship to the Bushes. The connection was a Houston wheeler-dealer named James Bath, who haunted the darker back corridors of the Bush-Reagan years, amid the fragrance of scandals ranging from Iran/contra to BCCI to the Silverado Savings and Loan debacle to Iranian weapons mogul Adnan Khashoggi.

Bath was an Air Force fighter pilot in Vietnam who ended up in the National Guard in Houston, where he first met George W. Bush, who had fled to the Guard in order to avoid combat. Bath and Bush became fast friends, with Bush later recalling that "Bath is a lot of fun".

Here, David attempts to conflate two unlike accusations.

In these communities, half-truths get circulated and exaggerated. Dark accusations are believed because it is delicious to believe them. Vince Foster was murdered. The Saudis warned the Bush administration before Sept. 11.

The Foster case was thoroughly investigated and determined to be a suicide. September 11th has NOT been thoroughly investigated yet, two years later, because the Bush administration refuses to cooperate and has in fact impeded the investigation every step of the way. We don't know yet whether the implication about the Saudis is true. It certainly has not been proven false. Release the 28 pages. Release the August 6 briefing. Then we might know.

What a cheap method of attempting to confuse the reader. Does this meet the Times' journalistic standards? Where's the brand new ombudsman?

Here's another sly prevarication:

There have been hundreds of references, for example, to Richard Perle's insidious power over administration policy, but I've been told by senior administration officials that he has had no significant meetings with Bush or Cheney since they assumed office.

Perle chaired the Defense Policy Board, until he was demoted to mere member of the Board due to his outrageous conflicts of interest (advising companies on how to profit on the imminent Iraq invasion while agitating for the invasion at the same time). The Board MEETS in the Pentagon:

If you could slip past the soldiers toting M-16s at the door, the Pentagon's 17 miles of corridors ...

So it was alarming when one secret agency's work spilled into the open recently, only to be dismissed by almost everyone involved. Meeting last month in Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld's private conference room, a group called the Defense Policy Board heard an outside expert... http://www.truthout.org/docs_02/08.22A.war.council.htm <Time Magazine>

There are many, many other people Perle would have met with who are not named Bush or Cheney. He obviously met with Rumsfeld. Maybe Powell. Certainly Wolfowitz, Feith, and others.

Notice also that Perle is said to have had no significant meetings with Cheney/Bush. Oh, there were meetings. Just not significant ones. And those "senior administration officials" will be the judge of that. Thanks Dick! And good one, David!

And this! Mind-numbingly deceptive:

...the Project for the New American Century, which has a staff of five and issues memos on foreign policy...

PNAC may have a staff of five, but Brooks fails to mention the many prominent members of the current administration who are signatories to those "memos," starting with Dick Cheney. The report Rebuilding Americas Defenses runs 90 pages - this is a "memo"? And I doubt that Perle and Wolfowitz were actually "on staff" at PNAC, unless Perle was running the copier. Check out the signatories to the PNAC's Statement of Purpose, which include Cheney, Libby, Jeb Bush, Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz.

Just a few of the deceptions Brooks employs in his desperate attempt to deflect attention from PNAC. I can't believe the Times printed this. So there are no journalistic standards for the Op-Ed page? As neo-con spokesman you can employ whatever deceptive methods of persuasion you can get away with?
