Why do people here need so much help?
Maybe I'm still getting used to this place, but why does everyone here always seem to need help responding to things like emails and bumper stickers? This place is a wealth of information, I wouldn't be surprised if a thorough five minute search produced the information you needed. Sorry to be a nag about it, but there are going to be times when we're going to have answer questions and we're not going to be able use a lifeline. Not saying you shouldn't ask for help here, it just seems like rudimentary/common knowledge stuff sometimes.

1. Really seems like things working ok.
You can just ignore those requests. And sometimes, people just want to connect with other people.

2. maybe
some people are new to doing activist work, and need some reassurance. What may be rudimentary common knowledge to you might be a frightening new task to someone else.

Perhaps we could all try being a little kinder to each other.

9. We're all on the same team and we should help each other out
If I can help someone write an email or somehow help someone and it turns out that it changed one persons vote from GOP to us... then it was worth whatever time I invested.

3. We're a Community
We're a community here.

Most of us here realize that we do not have all the answers.

Most of us here realize that it is often the case that having more people look at something we write is a better idea than relying on our own minds (however brilliant our own minds may be). Other people bring fresh perspectives and new insights that contribute to things we may have difficulty expressing.

People who are in a community seek advice and help from others in a community.

And people in a community offer helpful advice, constructive criticism, and their own viewpoints, if they are able, when they are asked.

And they do so, if they are truly in a community, in a way that up-lifts and supports others within the community and also in a way that does not knowingly encourage destructive behavior.

At least, that's my opinion on why people here often ask for help.

4. Well, not all of us always know how to "search" as well...
I've tried to look for some answers before, and couldn't find what I was looking for. Then, I'd ask for help from fellow DUers, and BINGO! I'd have links coming in from all over the place....learning more than I ever dreamed of!

Asking for help is never "wrong"....it takes a village. It's usually the village idiot that thinks he/she already knows it all....kinda like the freepers who never bother to ask whether something is true or not!

7. and sometimes, people are just lazy
i once replied privately that all the information someone requested was easily available with a little google and some follow-up.

he replied, "I know, I just want some else to do the work for me."

8. Some people are
just more articulate then others.
I'm in the latter category. So don't yell if you see a "help wanted" post from me.
Or, as stated above, don't read the thread.

10. There's a neat feature here where you can "vanish" an entire...
...thread!

Which I will do to this one right after I post this helpful reminder.

Oh! There's also a neato "Ignore" feature that comes in handy when the thread "vanishing" becomes an annoyance:-)

12. Nobody should ever ask for help.
Help is for sissies. If you can't do it by yourself,
don't do it. Give the job to a real man to do it.

14. It's me as long as you don't ask for
nothing. Make yourself to be who you are.
Him that asks for a helping hand is him that
needs to take a hand out of their own pants and
lift their own grimestone.
