Proposal offers employers tips to avoid paying OT

<snip>

Mark Wilson, a lawyer for the Communications Workers of America who specializes in overtime issues, said the Bush administration was protecting the interests of employers at the expense of workers.

"This plan speaks volumes about the real motives of this so-called family-friendly administration," Wilson said.

He says cutting workers' pay to avoid overtime is illegal, based on a 1945 Supreme Court ruling and a 1986 memo by the Labor Department under President Reagan.

But McCutchen disagreed. If changes were made week to week to avoid overtime, they would be illegal. A one-time change is not, she said.

"We had a lot of lawyers look at this rule. We would not have put that in there if we thought it was illegal," she said.

Comment: I believe this is yet another way this administration is looking after the corporation instead of the majority of the population. This in my opinion is a proverbial finger flip to the hard working men and women of America. When will we take this nation back?

1. Just sounds like Bushevik S.O.P.
Is there any Imperial Subject foolish enought o believe that the Emperor gives a shit about them and their families?

Emperors are notorious for not giving a shit about their Subjects. "Cannon Fodder" they call them.

5. Hey, it's in the best interest of Bush to keep his corporate....
Cronies happy. I just can't stand the hypocracy when he says he's a compassionate conservative.

I wish he'd just come out and say, "Fuck all you people, I'm worried about the corporations and the subsequent lobbies that will get me re-elected."

I hate being treated like I'm stupid.

Arrrrrgggg
:wtf:

4. This doesn't surprise me a bit
My step-dad works for Caterpillar and their contract is up for renegotiation in April. I am certain it will look totally different than past contracts. The co. has the authority to tell the union to take the proposed changes or they will go overseas. What are union members to do? Take the loss or lose their job? This administration is wiping out the middle class and manufacturing jobs. By the time my children are old enough, Wal-Mart will be considered "a good job" and that totally sucks.

8. They hate America
But they LOOOVE Amerika, a land without checks and balances, as well as a Sovietized Media shilling for Comrade Napoleon*.

It's a shame these Bushevioks couldn;t have focused their energies more productively, like orchestrating a Coup in England and supplanting the House of Windsor with the House of Bush.

Then we dcould look over across the sea and tsk-tsk at the plight of our oppressed cousins across the sea (instead of vice-vresa, as it is now)

10. This isn't what sickens me (it does)...
it's the hypocracy of this admin with regard to all their policies. I hate being lied to (ex. war)...and I hate being told that I will be taken care of (workwise) and then have them pull shit like this. I also hate that they lie to senior citizens (I'm not one) about the medicare reform bill. I hate the face they portray on TV and I despise the face behind the scenes. There isn't one thing, one thing at all, that I can find redeemable about this administration. They have hijacked our government and are off to the races. They intentionally leave sessions open way longer than they are supposed to to shove crappy bills that will only fuck us. They take away our rights in the name of security and tell us that it is for our own good. They say all these things with a straight face and expect me to believe it. That's what makes me ill. I would just rather they not insult my intelligence and get on with raping the fuck out me and get it the hell over with..

<end of rant> sorry...I'm really pissed.

11. ASIDE from the fact that this is bush spewage, take a look at this issue
from another point of view:

First, anyone who works more than 40 hours a week is nuts. It's simply crazy. Work is WORK. Far MORE important is your home, family and personal interests. Spending one more moment than necessary working for someone else's profits is just nonsensical.

Second, any business that can't manage its time and resources enough to handle daily productivity within an 8 hour day is BADLY managed. Either hire MORE people, or hire BETTER people and let the employees LIVE THEIR LIVES.

Unless you're an emergency services provider, overtime is a waste of time, money and resources. Any decently run organization should focus on providing their goods and services on an 8 hour work-day. To place such importance on WORKING is the AMERICAN way...

I like the italians; they get to work around 9, take a 3 hour lunch with their family, then work until about 6 or 7, then go home to dinner. They NEVER work on Sunday, and then they all take the entire month of August off.

And then we should talk about SIESTA!

It makes more sense to work smart than work hard.

12. Bush isn't interested in worker entertainment or family time...
He's interested in profit at all costs. He's interested max profit, min expense. He's nothing but a royal pain in the ass with all the shit he's been pulling.

I agree with you that it would be excellent to keep the "proletariat" happy, however, he's interested in keeping Bush happy regardless if the nation goes down the proverbial shit hole or not...

He's nothing but a King who's forgotten his people.....

13. from another point of view
many people who work overtime are not really given a choice. the old overtime rules ensured that at least they'd get some extra money. the new rules mean they'll be working just as much but for less money. it's basically a way of reducing their real wages.

14. My mom and step dad put 4 kids through college because of
over time pay. Sometimes working hard is what you need to do (like it or not) to do what you have to do. My step dad worked his butt off so we could all go to college and owe the least amount possible in student loans when we were done. If the chimp gets his way, that will be a missed opportunity for many middle class families in the future.

15. you expect Democrats to do something about this?
better look to another issue, because they wouldn't criticize this because it might offend big business and they don't want to offend big business

16. It's about time that Democrats figure out who they will represent.
The lowly income wage earner? Or big business?

Who's going to step up for us?
