JOHN Dean Book: Shrub Mal-Admin "worse than Watergate"
This via the oldest-wingnut-in-the-world-named-"Cindy" (ADAMS). Since she's a wingnut source, the explanation for citing her here is that the heads-up on JOHN Dean's book is a plus for us. While Cindy pals around with the PATAKIs, she also does with the CUOMOs. And in the quote from John, finally somebody mentions the elephant in the room, Shrub's "angry mistrustful personality".

A NOT very nice book by Nixon's White House counsel John W. Dean will drop on us. "Worse Than Watergate: The Secret Presidency of George W. Bush" says Bush's team has an obsession with secrecy and their willingness to deceive make them even more dangerous than Nixon's men." The book calls it "weapons of mass deception."

Dean writes about Bush's "emphasis on image over substance . . . angry mistrustful personality . . . excessive fear of leaks . . . imperial governing combined with deeply flawed decision making . . . serious abuses of national security secrecy . . . the administration's refusal to explain the precarious health of the powerful vice president . . . the imprecedented secrecy in the name of fighting terrorism."

Little, Brown publishes it in April, the heat of primary season.

2. "Weapons of mass deception..." that is excellent! The Democrats should
beg/borrow/steal that brilliant little sound-bite...that's the kind of stuff that resonates with most voters...give it to them in manageable little chunks about which they don't need to think too much. Unfortunate but true, and also unfortunate is that the Repiglicans excel at that shit.

3. "that brilliant little sound-bite"
has been bouncing around DU (and elsewhere on the net, including MANY political cartoons for months and months. even if it did originate with JDean (which i doubt) it is certainly nothing "new"...

4. John Dean is probably
the single reason that Nixon had to leave office.

When he testified in front of the Watergate committee, he quoted conversations verbatim, and everyone said he must be making it up, no one could recall conversations in that detail. And then Alexander Butterfield (former head of the FAA) let it slip that there was a recording system in the Oval Office, and when the tapes were finally played, it turned out that John Dean's memory was perfect.

I have enormous respect for that man, even though I believe he is still a conservative Republican in the original mold, not like today.
