The next Democratic President must do this:

Keep social programs going.

Terminate ALL corporate welfare that goes to affluent big corporations. Surely they can pay for themselves, as repukes always tell welfare mothers to do?

This is war.

Repukes want all social programs eliminated and no taxes for corporations (leaving us to foot the bill to ensure they remain protected in times of terror or war.)

It's about time we fight back.

Cut the corporate welfare and spell it out to the American people what has been going on. FIND a way to get people over the "well, that was 6 months ago so it's ancient history and not worth remembering" mental illness they all seem to have.

Okay, I changed the name despite what I said in post #3... you win.

4. See post 3... and this. Please.

I suppose I should be lucky; had I used the politically correct term, this thread would have been buried quickly in amongst a bunch of articles pertaining to the typical tripe about Bush being a big spender, gay marriage, the media bends over backwards for Bush, and other topical-but-will-be-forgotten-by-next-week issues (ala mad cow) that have been said so many times over that they now ARE trivial.

2. What's a "Democrat" party?
Sorry to lead off with this. But this thing of using "Democrat" rather than "Democratic" for the adjectival case of the name of our party is a right-wing affectation, intended as a subtle insult. I'd really prefer not to see it echoed on DU.

3. (this is a general response to all) It's just a mis-
understanding.

I'll use "Republicanic" along with "Democratic" if it comes down to this sort of petty nonsense as a response. (Forgive me this time, but how is it anything other than petty nonsense, a strict adherence to an unspoken rule?)

I try to bring up a nice talking point and all I get are responses about a silly label. No wonder so many leave DU... :-(

My use of the term "Democrat" was not an insult. Here is my thought on the issue, and then you'll see where my warped mind was at the time:

"Democrat party"
"Republican party"
"Green party"

or

"Democratic party"
"Republicanic party"
"Greenpic party"

See the difference? The inconsistency in terms popped into my mind before making the post. I don't give a flying fig if repukes use it as a slur. They'd make "ice cream sandwich" sound like a vile insult.

I'll use "Democratic" in the future, but I'm not going to change it this time. Too many replies have already been made about the use of this apparently evil word, and I want my side of the story to be said as well. Hopefully DUers have enough sense to read this post instead of putting me on "ignore" just because of a silly miscommunication... (find one of my articles in the lounge berating the ignore function as well...)

Let's get one thing straight though: I'm not a freeper, most of them get banned by the 50th post. I've 1000+ posts and I've made my political viewpoints clear hundreds of times over. I'm actually closer in spirit with the Green(ic) party but vote Democrat(ic) because of the backwards exclusionary nature of our voting system *(that nobody'll change because fairness will work against them) and I don't want a republican to win. Not ever again.

5. HypnoToad - a real response for you!
Your wish is good. I think a problem will be drawing a dividing line between 'corporate welfare', and schemes to encourage investment and new jobs. This loophole will be especially exploited by members of Congress - they all want to say 'look how I brought jobs to the area'. If you give up all attempts to attract investment, you run the risk of losing out to other similar economies (eg Europe).

I don't have any solution on how to draw the line. Greater transparency would help, I suppose.

6. Agreed. That person must also smash the right wing's media machine

into bits, immediately. They need to roll back the consolidation of the media.

Surely Republicans would back them in this effort 100%, seeing as how the media is so "liberal".
