1. I wish more soldiers would stand up and say the same thing...
...and refuse to participate in this illegal war, like a mass-mutiny! Not only should they refuse to die for oil, they should refuse to kill in the name of Halliburton!

5. Wonder what they would fight for in Leaven worth?
the right to bend over in the shower without being poked? This war might well be illegal what if there is a mass-mutiny in what people would call a legal war?

2. Oil Wasn't The Reason
we invaded Iraq. The evidence seems to point towards the hundreds of millions of dollars in contracts for the reconstruction.

8. You sure?
Hi, Azturq. Welcome to the DU. :smoke:

I thought we grabbed Iraq for 3 reasons, in order of importance:

1) OIL. Lots of it. The world's #2 supply, to the tune of 1 trillion barrels. We're drug-addicted oil junkies. The US goes into delerium tremens at the thought of losing it.

2) Control of the Middle East. This is a biggie. Not only do we want to sit on top of #2, we want to stay very close to #1, Saudi Arabia. Of course, there's always the clash of religions aspect, too. We want to show Islam who's boss.

3) Contracts. What contracts? Who the hell wants to go to Iraq to build a Boston Market or a Honey Baked Ham franchise. OK, OK, I know what you'll say. There's more. Like reconstruction contracts. Like hospitals, roads, hotels and so on. But the fact is, Iraq is a war zone and is likely to stay one for years to come. Look at Northern Ireland. It's a devastated wreck because business flees from places like that.
