The Religious Right..Threat to America's Freedom
Edited on Thu Dec-25-03 03:52 PM by wanderingbear
Dont sign these people off as a bunch of Nutcases.. Pat Robbertson and the "Christian Coalition" Reformed as the "Conservitive Coalition"
is a very dangerouse and large group of religous fanatics. They hold a majority in the organized Christian churches.Their Mission is to make sure that the U.S. becomes a "Christian Nation" To convert ALL non-belevers and to distroy all enemies of God..
They care nothing about the Constitution or the "Laws of Man" they live only by "Gods word" and obey only God. Or his appointed repersentitive on Earth George W Bush..

1. Creepy to say it that way
Edited on Thu Dec-25-03 03:30 PM by jokerman2004
But yeah. That seems about correct. accept...I'd like to challenge you on one point. How do you know their agenda is so fanatical? Can you support with verifiable facts what is intuitively obvious (to many of us) -- that they are an imminent threat to our constitution and basic rights.

on edit:

My grandfather was a Nazerene church Pastor.I was foce to go to church against my will every sunday..Most of my famly is still in the Religous Right. Today is a very awkward day for me.

It is what they beleve it is what they preach. The conversion of the wicked is their first task..You see they speak a stange sort of slang.People on the outside really dont know what they are saying..I dont think they realize they do this though.

is in just one little cheap book.

Eternal Hostility by Frederick Clarkson

Don't want to buy it? Just do a google search on RJ Rushdoonie...and see for yourself, what a theocrat looks like. Robertson, Fatwell, Bauer, et al are all followers of this nut-job.

3. I don't think we're getting the whole picture
I think true Christians are being deceived by the neoconservatives.
I found this website when I was doing a search for conspiracy theories. It is mostly from a religious right-wing author but this author doesn't withhold any punches concerning Pat Robertson, The Christian Broadcast network, dominate fundamentalist churches, the Bush administration, and big corporations. Warning: it also shoots at Al Gore, Bill Clinton, the UN, Jewish "cabalists" and many other people and groups that Democrats would support. Please don't think I adhere to these beliefs but the parts on the site (which could takes weeks to read) regarding the corporate logos and "the establishment" make this very interesting reading. This site has pages and pages of corporate logos that have cabalist-type symbolism including pyramids, eyes, suns and serpents. I never really noticed this before. Even some Christian churches and television stations appear to display some of this symbolism. Just take a look for yourself and make your own decision.....
http://www.samliquidation.com/section16b.htm

Scroll down on this page and you will find Dick Cheney's businesses, as well. It's definitely a conspiracy theory website but it's the most interesting one I've seen yet.

The site is basically intertwining conspiracy theory with their interpretation of endtimes prophecy. Appears anti-semitic at first but if you keep reading it doesn't appear to be like you think.

39. It all comes back to money.
The religious right leaders are not truly theists.

Take the televangelists you see on TV for example. They don't believe the BS that they're spewing. They're POLITICIANS, trying to get your money. They are fulfilling a demographical need for an ideological leader, and profiting from it. They're simply opportunists, who know people who are ripe for the picking when they see them.

These guys are just lying politicians. They represent the people who give them money, and that's all.

16. The god of hatred, racism and greed....
its the god of death.

These people are as worse as the muslim "fundamentalists"...the
radicals that believe that they are the "chosen" and that everybody
else are heretics.

Remember: we have American soldiers in Iraq that strongly believe that
they are "protected" by god and Jesus Christ... :eyes:
We're headed towards a world war based on religion and ethnic
origins....covered with oil...

30. I don't think that many Christians - who aren't following news closely -
realize that the far-right-politicized-fundamentalist Christians... do not believe that most self-professed Christians are Christians. They would impose a very narrow interpretation (and one that does not mirror many teachings of Jesus) of Christianity on all others through the Government.

For folks not paying attention, they hear "Christian" and envision mainstream Christianity and while perhaps not aggreeing with the theology and aggressive political hardball of the far-right-politicized-fundamentalist Christians somehow feel empathy and a small degree of identification. They do not realize that this group (the far-right-politicized-fundamentalist Christians) do NOT believe that they (those mainstreamers) are NOT Christian and should either be converted or should be politically disenfranchised. But this silent acceptance by those not paying attention gives the crazies (like Tom DeLay) even more power. My Catholic brother fits strongly into this crowd. He enjoyed the "Left Behind" series of books and encouraged his sons to read them. He somehow missed the VERY CENTRAL theme that the Catholoics were condemned to hell in this story (a central theme not missed by my sister-in-law) - he just doesn't get that these folks are just as against HIM as they are against their more currently vocalized targets.

31. Tell your brother the Catholic Church is against the Left Behind ideas

The Catholic Church is fervently against the whole "Left Behind" premise. Not just because Catholics are going to Hell in the series.

33. Can you point me in the direction of any info
regarding the Catholic Church and the series? I would love to - at the right time - pass that on to him. On several levels he really needs his eyes opened a bit. He looks at the far-religious-politicized-christian right as perhaps a bit extreme, but over all "well intended Christian people"... as if he can pick and chose the most benign positions (are there any? he believes so)... and disregard all of the rest. Many thanks.

38. Yes I hate the Left Behind theory of the rapture
I believe these Christians that love those books and are being converted by them don't realize how wrong the idea of a pre-trib rapture really is. I don't see anything in the Bible that promotes a Christian being swept up and saved from tribulation. Hitler's Jews weren't saved and neither were the many Christians who've been persecuted in the past. What would make Christians in the endtimes more special??? I believe it is an all out lie. And the ones who tend to believe this stuff are generally ones who support the Christian right and the Bush administration!!! I wish they would wake up!!!!!!!!!!!

17. The Religious Right is not a religion, it is a religious organization
People seem to forget, ignore, not know, whatever, the difference....

For instance, I belong to Network Lobby, a Catholic Social and Economic Justice Lobby organization. Very left leaning. www.networklobby.org
It was started by dozens of nuns in the early 1970s.
It bases its stances on issues on Catholic Social Teaching.
It not the official voice of the Catholic Church, but simply echoes the stances of the Church on specific social and economic matters.

People turn on the tv and think Pat Robertson et al. speak for a religion, when they actually speak for a religious organization.

I have a friend, Brother Joe (OD) who leads the Dances of Universal Peace, a form of body prayer that honors all spiritual traditions, including Goddess. We have had Sufi gatherings at Catholic retreat centers in the midwest, and have always been welcome. Glad to hear from another progressive Catholic!

18. Wacko nut job conspiracy theorist...
Exactly how do you expect to win an election, take the south, win the WH when the fractured democratic party is representative of such idiocy?

The only way for the democrats to win...as done with Clinton is to move to the center. The fear, the anger, the hatred espoused by the far left against anything centrist and right of center will easily devistate any chances of winning next year.

You are so focused on what you feel is the evils of freedom of religion or freedom from religion..which ever you prefer to practice, and yet there is no uproar that Dean is now putting himself forward as a centrist Christian based candidate.

Take your candles and conspiracies to someplace where they only hurt people such as yourself...

That includes Dobson.. Whos a friend of my grand fathers.

Well, you stay far away from those people!

I don't know that much about the Christian televangelists since I am Jewish and I don't bother with them. But Dobson is just a crook, plain and simple. There have been con men and snake oil salesmen around for a long time and plenty of people have been duped by them, for sure. But they are still nothing more than snake oil salesmen. Please don't attribute more power to them than they really have.

What goes around comes around. You might not see it, but if someone is a con artist that person lives with the idea that everyone else is as crooked as he is and he's always afraid that someone "smarter" is going to con him. You and I know that most people are good and decent, but imagine the hell it must be to always be afraid of being snookered by everyone you might meet and never being able to relax and enjoy all the wonderful and generous and truly kind people who are out there in the world. I know I wouldn't want to live that way for all the money and power in the entire world.

37. Oh yeah...Mother Russia here you come
You think that you and a computer can do something that 70 some odd years of Socialism, Marxism, Communism, and various other ill conceived humanistic parties have been unable to do? Regardless of your political affialtion, a freedom OF religion is guaranteed by our Constitution. To suggest otherwise is to ensure that you will be one of the first rounded up along with the White Supremisist and the Unibombers of the world.

Regardless of your religious affiliation, or lack thereof, you must afford those around you the same freedom, to the point that you understand that they may hold beliefs that may be contrary to your own. To attempt to restrict this freedom would generate far more sevear consequences than any patriot act could ever do.

35. My SIL is a fundie. She absolutely know that she is right and you are
wrong. No gray areas. One of the primary differences between
conservative and liberal thought is that the conservatives
see things in black and white, no gray areas. Liberal thinkers are more likely to think that there are gray areas and extenuating
circumstances. Fundies are a natural for conservative political
thought because it fits their world view. I don't know how to change something that ingrained. The best defense would be other religious groups pointing out the problems with their views.

36. A few quotes regarding religion and politics.
Edited on Thu Dec-25-03 09:18 PM by bandera
"The clergy, by getting themselves established by law and ingrafted
into the machine of government, have been a very formidable engine
against the civil and religious rights of man." Thomas Jefferson

"People who are bitter and hateful about slavery are obviously bitter and hateful against God and his word, because they reject what God says and embrace what mere humans say concerning slavery. This humanistic thinking is what the abolitionists embraced." Alabama State Senator Charles Davidson - 1996

"The doctrine that the earth is neither the center of the
universe nor immovable, but moves even with a daily rotation,
is absurd, and both philosophically and theologically false,
and at the least an error of faith." Catholic Church's decision agains Galileo Galilei

From someone who now works for Bush:

"I want to be invisible. I do guerrilla warfare. I paint my face and travel at night. You don't know it's over until you're in a body bag. You don't know until election night." Ralph Reed - Christian Coalition

"In every country and in every age the priest has been hostile to
liberty; he is always in allegiance to the despot, abetting his
abuses in return for protection of his own." Thomas Jefferson

"What shall we Christians do now with this depraved and damned people
of the Jews? ... I will give my faithful advice: First, that one should set fire to their synagogues. . . . Then that one should also break down and destroy their houses. . . . That one should drive them out the country." Martin Luther

"It is quite unlawful to demand, defend, or to grant unconditional freedom of thought, or speech, of writing or worship, as if these were so many rights given by nature to man." Pope Leo XIII,

And, my favorite:

"Life in Lubbock, Texas, taught me two things: One is that God loves
you and you're going to burn in hell. The other is that sex is the most awful, filthy thing on earth and you should save it for someone you love." Butch Hancock
