Dick Cheney's Christmas card
http://slate.msn.com/id/2092804/

God wants Halliburton profiteering from wars waged on false pretenses? Ok, thanks for clearing that up, Dick. :puke:

2. Not a hint of baby Jesus, wise men and other Christian
references. Is he really an atheist? Is the holy Christian crap just that, crap?

4. The capitalized personal pronouns...
in DickieBoy's case no doubt are referring to the He of Hades, Cheney's mentor and to whom he ultimately reports. We all know nobody actually reports to the Chimp..

5. Contemptible...
To quote Ben Franklin, the man who admonished us all: "Those that would trade liberty for security deserve neither."

7. I guess I'll take a picture
of my house, and send it around as my Christmas card next year. That way, I won't offend anybody (maybe).

8. What's with the empty chair motif this year?
The loafer in the WH sent a pic of empty chairs, also.

Maybe they should include a lil' cut and paste book of Saudi Royals to fill in those spots.

9. I can't beleive everyone is missing the obvious here
That was a weird thing for Franklin to have said, seeing as he was a self proclaimed Deist.

The card is disgusting as it seems to be an excuse for the American Empire they are foisting on the world (by killing people). But it is also a strange thing for BF to have said and it seems he was refering to the US as an empire?

11. They didn't even use the entire quote (how Cheney-esque)
"The longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth, that God governs in the affairs of man; and if a sparrow..........."

Cheney puttin' the squeeze on God. :eyes:

Too bad Big Dick ruled out this quote for his card :

"The world is full of fools and faint hearts; and yet everyone has courage enough to bear the misfortunes, and wisdom enough to manage the affairs, of his neighbor."

14. One of the most self-serving, creepiest cards I have ever seen
My interpretation? It seems to be saying that America cannot become an empire without God's assistance. Cheney would have done well to include the whole text, that God is involved in the affairs of men. Of course, if that were true, I'm more than happy for God to intervene and cast his judgment upon those who have led us into the gates of hell.

Other timeless quotes by the master of liberty and justice:

"Whatever is begun in anger ends in shame."

"There never was a good war, or a bad peace."

"Experience keeps a dear school, but fools will learn in no other."

And one which seems especially appropriate for bush:
"It is hard for an empty bag to stand upright."

16. Not Quite
More like they're carving out an empire with "God" on their side.

If the Islamic jihad can do it in the Middle East, why can't they try the same with the Religous Right?

19. great. so we're all caught in the crossfire of a religious war?
just what I always wanted.

I thought America had outgrown that, but maybe I was wrong.

Who sent our country through the time machine back to the dark ages?

15. Hail Cheney, Oh Great Empire Builder!
Where art thou oh great one? Your rooms are empty. Your halls echo with the sounds of nothing. You live in darkness. No one knows where.

You have carved an empire, but your face is unseen. You fear your shadowy foe.

Hide little man. And grimace in sadness and disappointment. Greater ones than you have come and gone. But few lower.

21. Creepy, as usual. And how about how * sent his cards from the Crawford
post office, not the White House. That phony place in Crawford is his PERSONAL house, not the White House and I am sick of them trying to confuse the two places.

23. Yeah, kinda like Nixon sending his cards
from San Clemente. Or Bush I sending his from…well, no one really knew where he was from (Kennebunkport was their summer home). I remember how when Poppy was defeated, no one in the press really knew where he was going to go back to, since no one knew where he was from. He had no real home. He announced he was building a house on a miniscule piece of land in Houston.

24. what doe that empire quote doing on an Xmas card?
it seems totally out of place to me. Makes no sense. In fact, isnt the Empire a bad guy in the whole Jesus story?

Another question, what was Franklin talking about?

25. "Empire": it's not just for anti-imperialists anymore.
Neoconservatives are not so shy about embracing the term. To them, it reflects facts on the ground, and the ground is trodden by American boots. So get used to it, the Republic is finished. And besides, as Cheney's card implies, the American Empire is "God's will."

To which empire do you think Benjamin Franklin was alluding? I doubt it's the one Cheney has in mind.
