War - what is it good for? (the story of a defecting Dem)
I was trying to find the name of that song's lyric and the songwriter in response to http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=105&topic_id=559191&mesg_id=559191 .

So I googled the text, and found this lil' website:

http://www.townhall.com/columnists/jonahgoldberg/jg20031031.shtml

He is right about keeping the troops in Iraq (which means bushbastard* might withdraw them if the public start crying out, and you know they will now that Saddam is gone... :eyes: ) Callous repukes created the mess, we liberals who claim to cherish life and everything else will look like pointless goodfornothing hypocrites if we advocate pulling out.

He also has an advert for a talking Ann Coulter doll, so I have to wonder though...

He is definitely wrong when talking about the $20 bil for rebuilding Iraq. Time magazine pointed out the fuzzy math behind the money, obviously this author never bothered to read it... so I will point it out to you: http://www.time.com/time/covers/1101031006/ (click on that THEN look for the link "behind the price" and click on it.)

1. Edwin Starr performed that way back when (if you're still looking).
War -- Edwin Starr
Oh no-there's got to be a better way
Say it again
There's got to be a better way-yeah
What is it good for?
*War has caused unrest
Among the younger generation
Induction then destruction
Who wants to die?
War-huh
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing
Say it again
War-huh
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing
Yeah
War-I despise
'Cos it means destruction
Of innocent lives
War means tears
To thousands of mothers how
When their sons go off to fight
And lose their lives
I said
War-huh
It's an enemy of all mankind
No point of war
'Cos you're a man
*(Repeat)
Give it to me one time-now
Give it to me one time-now
War has shattered
Many young men's dreams
We've got no place for it today
They say we must fight to keep our freedom
But Lord, there's just got to be a better way
It ain't nothing but a heartbreaker
War
Friend only to the undertaker
War
War
War-Good God, now
Now
Give it to me one time now
Now now
What is it good for?

2. Sadly, Edwin passed away in 2003
The song "War" was written to oppose the violence in the streets of America during the race riots of the period. It soon became an anthem, if you will, for the anti- Viet Nam war protestors.

3. I have to point out that Jonah is Lucienne's son.

He is to the right of right although sometimes he can make you think he isn't. He has been known to criticize Ann Coulter but then quite a few conservative elitists have also done so. They think she makes them look bad. The advertising of her doll does point out what side of the aisle the publication is on and Jonah doesn't have any control over that.
