It's Pathetic...Carville allows Matlin to run roughshod over him!!
Edited on Sun Dec-21-03 09:44 AM by glarius
Mary Matlin, is a typical mean-spirited right wing Republican and she walks all over James Carville....It's sad the way he displays his fear of her and doesn't speak up in any forceful way against her...IMO

1. I agree. I can't stand watching them together.
So I don't do it anymore.

I don't want him to attack her. I want him to respond to her lame accusations with good arguments backed up by data to show how silly her arguments are. Truth is on his side and he needs to put her on the defensive rather than looking down at the table and mumbling some irrelevant comment.

2. Isn't there a word for that?
A guy who lets the woman in his life walk all over him?

Yeah, there is, but it is so patently offensive in this PC era that even I won't use it, even here on DU.

But we all know.

Love.

Some couples don't allow work to spoil their relationship.

More power to them both.

appear on TV with her as a spokesperson for the Democrats in opposition to her because he is DOING HARM TO YOUR CAUSE....I think that makes sense....He's still able to be on with other right wingers...It looks like a novelty act the networks love, but it's not beneficial to Democrats....IMO

31. Love is supposed to be a two way street
If love is, in fact, what is staying James from responding to his wife's attacks, why isn't it dissuading her from making them in the first place? Does she not love her husband? Oh yeah, that's right - she's a Repuke, I keep forgetting: they have no manners or sense of decency. Once again, I can't help but wonder why anyone would ever be involved with - much less marry - a Republican.

4. I used to enjoy hearing Carville - he is so hen-pecked now that it is
almost embarressing to watch.

I guess in any relationship there is always the one that does the most loving and therefore toes the line of the other person. I guess he just wants to keep peace in his family - which I can't blame him for. But, it has lost us a good, interesting speaker - oh well - such is life - sigh

24. I've had posts deleted for expressing my feelings against Carville
Edited on Sun Dec-21-03 11:57 AM by chaumont58
That he has chosen to be marry, and remain married to someone with values expressed by Mary Matalin shows a huge character deficeit to me. I think Carville(and Begala) have become part of the beltway whore establishment, and they value their membership more than other accomplishment.
Carville expressed the convention wisdom regarding Dean, in that he says Dean should have went along with the idea that we are safer now the Saddam has been captured. He also said Dean insulted Clinton. If he meant Dean's comment about the era of big government, one has to walk in the snow all night to find an insult in that statement. If I were to need someone to tell me how to think regarding the capture of Saddam(and I don't), I would take the word of genuine god damn American hero, John Glenn, over a bald headed suckup from Louisiana.

and I too am disappointed that he doesn't stand up to her more. I guess he's afraid that he will get out of control with her if he really tries to defend his stance and he doesn't want to do that on national tv. Who knows?

I wish he would have confronted more of Tom DeLay's lies.

13. I think that his ideas are great
and I also think it is amazing that they are married and stay married. I don't think of him as hen-pecked... they are both very strong personalities and I think that they play up the political divide for the cameras even more than is true in reality. So politics does make for strange bedfellows. I wonder if it is the degree of passion about the subject that attracts them to each other? And I have heard that they do argue all the time.

23. He always does that (and I can't stand him for it)
He and the missus are basically two little kids who play a very well-paying game of capture the flag- "You win for awhile, then I'll win for awhile" Their mismatched life together is supposed to be "funny" or "charming" in a lameass sitcom kind of way. A pox on both of them because their "work" has real world consequences for the rest of us.

it may look lopsided to outsiders,
it may look dysfunctional to outsiders,
it may look like something they would not want.

But it works for them.

damaging the Democrats by allowing her to say whatever she wants to and he is not refuting her....If he can't stand up to her on TV, before the American public, then he shouldn't be on TV as a Democratic spokesperson with her....That's all I'm saying....

and those who state that this couple represents the ultimate in media whoredom, to the very GREAT detriment of
progressive' causes (hate to use the "d" word anymore, it's so depressing), you couldn't be more correct.

that bit about Dean being incoherent, and Carville not responding is beyon pathetic.

talk about a fat pitch, just waiting to be hit onto Waveland Ave........christ on a triscuit.

he's just about gone.

for those that want to see just how bad it's gotten, he's on Tim Russert, alone, on CNBC, at 6PM Eastern

it's his reward for rolling over for wifey on the show most people watch.....gets a chance to pimp his new book on a show NObody watches

39. I would agree with that in part. I think it isn't personal, it's business
where politics are concerned. I watched the K street episode
where they were at dinner and talking about the beginning
of their relationship and why they are together, Matalin mentioned that he had told her that she reminded him of his mother. So there is a connection of some sort going on and the truth of the matter is that the only 2 people who know what a realtionship is about are the 2 people that are in the relationship. Some people can detach from business vs. personal in relationships. I am too sensitive, I'd be pissed all the time, but that's me.

46. This couple represents the bigger picture in what is going on
between the two parties. The repugs are aggressive,
goal oriented, media attention grabbers, rude,
in your face, win at all costs fighters.

The Dems are hesitant, passive, unconfident, easily
intimidated, unsure, over accommodating, over
tolerant, over polite, and responders vs aggressors.
Most of our politicians suck and that is why we lose.

Just look at Tom Daschle who cannot even raise his
voice......I'd like to get him to a voice teacher
who might teach him how to YELL!

By the way this is why Dean is winning...he is
aggressive and has captured the passions of
constituents who are sick of all the passivity.
I was a Kerry supporter but I am switching!

Clinton lies about a personal matter = impeached and the media loves it!

Bush lies about the reasons for war, outed a CIA agent and never funds programs he promises the people of this country = FREE RIDE from the Dems and the so-called "liberal" media!

The Dems and the mainstreem media shoud be ashamed of themselves. They are the reasons thousands of innocent iraqis and almost 500 of our soldiers have died! The blood is on their hands.....
