Gop to court Blacks over radio
What's up with the Gop? I suppose all voters are fair game to be courted though.

NEW YORK - In an effort to break the Democratic Party's grip on the Black vote, several leading Black Republicans have accepted an offer from one of the nation's largest urban radio networks to deliver a weekly address targeting African-Americans.

Alphonso Jackson, whom President Bush nominated to be secretary of Housing and Urban Development, will present the first address today at 1:06 p.m., said Jerry Lopes, president of program operations and affiliations at Pittsburgh-based American Urban Radio Networks.

"We welcome the opportunity to speak directly to the African-American community throughout our nation," Ed Gillespie, chairman of Republican National Committee, said in a statement.

Other scheduled speakers include prominent Black Republicans such as Bush's Education Secretary, Rod Paige, Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele and Hempstead, N.Y., Mayor James Garner.

Lopes said he proposed the idea of having Republicans deliver a weekly address after meeting with Black conservatives during a reception in Washington, D.C., this summer.

When he approached the GOP with the idea, they "jumped on the opportunity to have their representatives bring a message to Blacks," Lopes said.

2. What message does the right wing have for African Americans?
I hope they know their not talking to a bunch of suckers like the freepers are.

Poor whites who support the GOP are cutting their own throats but they just don't get it. I don't think the Repubs can use the same tactic and Blacks.

3. Clear Channel
I notice that Clear Channel is buying up the Black talk stations and R&B stations in my area.

4. No Chance
The Republicans offer little of value to the men and women of colour of the US. Few will be fooled.

5. A few is all it takes to hurt us badly.
Let's say that only one of 30 blacks is peruaded by this round of courting. Blacks make up 12% of the population, and 90% of them are Democrat. So that's about 11% of the population. About 35% of the population self IDs as Democrat. (That stat is from memory, I'm not going to bother to find a link. Do you own googling is you doubt that figure.) So black Democrats make up about a third of your base. I the GOP can reach on 1 in 30 blacks, then we lose 1% point of our base, and we can't afford to lose any percentage points of our base.

Somebody please check my arithmatic. It's late at night and I am tired. Good night.

6. They did the same thing during the last election and it didn't make a
dent in the results. I listen to the R+ B stations and I heard
the Republican ads. No change in the results noted. I rather doubt
that they will make a dent this time either but I realize that they feel that they need to try and of course they will try. This is going to be a rough campaign. Expect anything and be prepared.

7. I doubt very much
that the repugs could make ANY serious inroads to the black vote. But if they succeed in instilling doubt, or that make both sides look the same, that STILL is a problem. The stay at home crowd.

It's always a problem getting this block motivated to get up and vote. THATS where the problem is. and we need every vote we can get.

8. deception - GOP style
1.) The GOP will deceive the blacks. The same way Katherine Harris blocked alot of blacks from voting in 2000 florida election. She did this by falsely attaching their names to felonies (which they did not committ) etc.

2.) ALSO ... that ass Ralph Nader will probably run again and spoil the democrat vote again ...

add up 1.) and 2.) and what do you get .... 4 more years of Fascist Bush Incorporated.

sooo .... enjoy your eggnog, enjoy your holidaze, and enjoy the people around you. Enjoy your last few moments of freedom.

10. I believe that
I will never forget the Black Caucus protesting the inauguration of our piece of shit "president". Not only were they not fooled, they had the guts to stand up and say it.

11. Great math for them though.
Since Bush won what 7 % of A-A votes in 2000, what does he have to lose?

He can aim for small sub-sets of the population, and not worry about alienating the majority of A-A voters, because they can only vote against him once.

9. The GOP doesn't court black voters
There is no group locked into any party like blacks into the Democratic party. And considering how the economy has affected working people over the past few decades, the average African-American more reason to vote Democratic then other.

The GOP doesn't court black voters. They court white swing voters who are turned off by overt displays of racism. A lot of their efforts are in this direction, to go along with the compassionate conservative image. Even I am happy that Bush has Condoleeza Rice and Colin Powell in high-ranking positions, it makes you think that battle might almost be won in a few decades, like the end of people who thought women shouldn't vote (incidentally, Ann Coulter says women shouldn't vote since they lean Democratic).
