why was the Qadafi announcement made on a Friday?
Not just any Friday, the Friday before Christmas.

Is Bush just a modest guy? Why not trumpet his great victory loud and proud?

Why didn't he take any questions after his announcement, is he shy?

1. This announcement is a slap in the face to the family members
Of those who died at the hands of this madman. The 15 year anniversary, I believe, is tomorrow and the family members are not very happy about the cozy relationship between Bush* and this terrorist.

3. Khadaffy is NOT a madman.
He's a dictator holding power for a long time in a difficult place. NEVER make the mistake of thinking he's crazy.

8. I don't see a cozy relationship.
I just see Libya disavowing weapons programs. That's a good thing.

2. Best question I've heard all day.
Mainly, because I didn't think of it.

Suddenly, I want to know this more than anything.

It can't be because he was afraid the press would find something smelly about it. Although they did notice that the turkey reeked, eventually.

So why?

4. I'm betting this has been in the can for a while
Timing is everything when you're engineering history for the citizen-consumatrons.

7. Monday after Thanksgiving
That would have caught more attention.

9. They said they've been negotiating with the Libyans for months
Edited on Sat Dec-20-03 04:16 PM by Danocrat
I'm sure that's not all they've been negotiating. Libya is one of Africa's largest exporters of oil.

10. so how is this being spun on DU, too?
I wasn't on this forum until now, since the announcement.

but you know, if Quaddafi is going to allow UN inspectors in, like South Africa did, why could that be a bad thing for the world?

admittedly, I don't want anything to help Bush, but more than that, I would like the entire world, the US included, to stop the WMD escalation and continuation, as well as nuclear (including depleted uranium warhead) weapons.

Obviously I have no idea, and neither does anyone else at this time, about how this will play out.

But isn't MQ/Libya also motivated by the (false) blame they took for the Lockerbie bombing...wasn't that recently in the news?

Just wondering...and wondering if anyone on this board can talk about this without having to spin it as a way to denounce Bush...not that he doesn't deserve to be denounced in 10,000 ways.

but, yes, no doubt the neo-cons will use this moment to justify the invasion of Iraq, no matter how much they lied about it. And they may just succeed, you know.

This event will have the appearance of making Americans feel safer, unless they are subject to another attack on American soil. That's my bet.

Is that why?
