Iraq 5 Years From Now, Friend or Foe?
At some point in the future Iraq will have a Government of some sort that it can call its own, let's say 5 years hence. We may or may not have a lot to do with that Government's policys, who knows? When that happens to you think that Iraq will be a friend or enemy of the United States. Just to put it on a Scale let's call Britan a 10 for friend, and Iran or North Korea a 1 for enemy, maybe put Russia at about the number 5 position. How do you see Iraq?

Probably around a 6 or 7. I'm an optimist. Besides, we really can't afford to fail. The consequences are too huge. Five years is not enough. Iraq won't be totally fixed. Look at Afghanistan. But there's no doubt that Afghanistan is more a friend than a foe right now.

In truth, I don't think Iraq will be entirely independent or fixed in 5 years and thus able to objectively answer the friend/foe question. But they'll still be under American and international aegis like Afghanistan, trying to muddle through the process of recreating themselves.

Maybe not in 5 years, but definitely within 20 (if we're all still around by then).

See, the US will install a puppet dictator (yeah, I know, hard concept to grasp, since it's like never been done before).

The Iraqi's will be our friends for a number of years, while we bleed their oil and resources dry.

Then something will happen, and we'll just not care about Iraq one way or the other, until they're needed for political gain.

Then they'll be the enemy. Just like they always were. Just like they never were.

Just like every other country on our list. The Enemy of my Enemy is my friend....
