Why do people think that you have to be a Republican to love America?
I get really tired of people who don't know sh*t telling me, you and the rest of the population what to believe and how to live our lives. I consider myself a Democrat, I love America, and if I didn't, I would not be here talking to you people. I fear for the direction of the country.

On another note, are all of those patriotic hollywood people Republicans?

1. Because they're trying to fuck with your head.
It's manipulative. Tell them it's horseshit, don't waste your time explaining to them stuff they already know about dissent and whatever, and get back to whatever issue their trying to duck from.

2. I dunno...
...I have a sign in my truck window that reads "Proud and Patriotic "anti-Bush" American" and I'm putting one in tomorrow that reads " Just when did the Bush-ites stop loving America".

I aim to offend and annoy. :)

4. History repeats itself
Same reason Germans believed they had to love Hitler and the 3rd Reich to be good Germans--

They were subjected to a relentless propaganda machine that appealed to their basest instincts.

5. It's part of the party loyalty equals American loyalty
propaganda. They want you to feel unAmerican and unpatriotic if you don't tow the party line. Point out to them that being a Republican these days is pretty much being a facist and that is very undemocratic. Point out to them that the Republican Party is using the U. S. Constitution for a bird cage liner or worse. Then with a flourish ask whose unpatriotic and doesn't love America now? Turn their own arguments on them. It's not that hard because their propaganda is really nonsense and you have to let them know it.

7. A long time ago............
the GOP framed the debate that Democrats "hated America" becuse they were always finding fault with (their) leaders. It never occured to them that Democrats wanted somthing better for America than the GOP vision of Republican robots blindly following their master's orders.
They framed the debate, hence the issue belongs to them. Do not question it or you will be sent to a re-education camps to fully comply with official GOP doctrine.
