A CLASS DIVIDED (A Classic FRONTLINE)
One of the most requested programs in FRONTLINE's 20-year history, this 1985 documentary recounts one small town teacher's attempt to teach her students about racism and discrimination. In 1968, on the day after Martin Luther King, Jr.'s assassination, elementary school teacher Jane Elliott decided to try a bold experiment: She began awarding special privileges to her blue-eyed students while discriminating against those whose eyes were brown. What's more, she actively encouraged the blue-eyed children to discriminate against their brown-eyed classmates. In 'A Class Divided,' FRONTLINE tracks down Mrs. Elliott's former third-graders to learn what effect those early lessons on racism and diversity had on their attitudes and behavior later in life.

4. Guess what? Americans are still biased in favor of blue eyes
Edited on Thu Dec-18-03 11:34 PM by Military Brat
I cannot state that the following quote is 100 percent accurate on its assertions. I was trying to find statistics on blue-eyed versus brown-eyed presidents.

"It is a fact that in the entire history of the United States, we have not elected a single president who did not have blue eyes. All 42 men who have served as President have had blue eyes of various shades, but never brown. (George W. Bush is our 43rd president, but there actually have only been 42 presidents: Cleveland was elected for two nonconsecutive terms and is counted twice, as our 22nd and 24th president.)

When most people are told this fact they usually say, “What about Nixon? He had brown eyes.” Nope. They were greenish grey — a variation of blue.

What about Lincoln? Blue.
Eisenhower? Blue.
Carter? Green.

You can look ‘em all up. Blue, green, grey, greenish grey, blue-green — but there’s not a single brown-eyed man in the bunch."

So I guess the question is: Which Dem candidate has blue eyes?

BTW, I believe the blue-eyes bias is because people perceive blue-eyed people as being analytical, whereas brown-eyed people are emotionally reactive. There is some truth to that, but there are always exceptions to the rule. Look how fast bush** loses his temper! But remember, with Americans, perception is everything.

Edited: Dean has blue eyes; Clark has brown eyes.

men's eyes (Waspy types), a 'variation' of blue?

If so it would seem to follow that the chances of one of these folks becoming President are fairly high, as not many men with an ethnic background have really run for the office.

7. As much as I prefer Dean, I don't see this as a major point.

9. Don't you have that backwards?
I saw her on Oprah more than a decade ago, but what she did was reward the brown eyed children and let them openly discriminate against the blue eyed ones.
