13. This almost sounds like it was invented
to evoke sympathy for the First Nitwit. Maybe to explain away the persistant simpleton smile on her face.

Her late adolescent years were marred by a tragedy that was not highly publicized until her husband's presidential run. When she was 17, Laura accidentally drove through a stop sign and hit a car driven by a high school friend. He was killed. No charges were filed in the accident.

Rumor is that the guy was actually an ex-boyfriend but that sounds like BS to me. On Edit: (the newsmax article posted above states it was a boyfriend)

KILLED REALLY FELT GREAT THAT NOTHING WAS DONE TO THE PERSON WHO KILLED THEIR SON.

Also, it is a felony to commit a crime while commiting crime.

Ran red light. first crime)
Killed person . second crime

Same as Janklow, whose name ought to enter the language: "Did you hear? Laura Bush Janklowed her ex-boyfriend!"

12. No mention about her being drunk ...
... though back in those days, there was probably little association with drunk driving and mayhem. Anyway according to the news reports, police said that 17 year old Laura was not responsible for the accident.

20. She ran a stop sign, but no charges were filed, per that article.
But you can bet that if she'd been poor and black and killed someone by running a stop sign, that charges damned well would have been filed...

MSNBC - Headliners & Legends - Laura Welch Bush

Matt Lauer: The girls are taken to the local hospital. Laura is being treated for minor injuries when she learns that Mike is dead. He was killed "almost" instantly of a broken neck.... It is a terrible burden for the "sensitive" 17-year-old to bear. Laura does not return to school for weeks.... According to the police report, Laura is "not respnsible" for the accident. No charges are pressed....

After all, all she did was blow through a stop sign. It was an act of God! Personal responsibility, my ass.

21. Yes, it was her BF
whether he was an "ex"-BF or not is open to speculation. He was driving a '63 Corvair, which seems to me to be a vehicle that would be impossible to mistake even from a distance. She had her best girlfriend with her. She was never charged, even though it appears that she was flagrantly in violation of the law. Whether or not it was deliberate is, again, anyone's guess. The dark mutterings presume that he had backed out of an agreement to engage her for matrimony.

23. Oh, yeah
Pickles is indeed a murderer. But most of the Bush family has gotten away with at least one felony, so it's no big deal.

just imagine if Hillary had killed her ex-squeeze with her car while drunk.

25. Maybe she did it out of anger and revenge and maybe not
Edited on Thu Dec-18-03 08:50 PM by Marianne

Whether she did or not, she is certainly not the most intelligent or the most sophisticated first lady we have ever seen. She is constantly putting on that fake smile and at time it is even inappropriate. She seems to be reacting, viscerally each time this joker smile is in evidence.

I think that she is very very pleased to just go along for the ride on the coat tails of the rich Bush family. She probably thinks that since she sacrificed and contributed two daughters at once to the family, that she does indeed deserve it all, all of it! The trips to Europe to "shop and to eat" on our money, for one thing.

I do not reserve any bit of sympathy for Laura, the Stepford, Bush. She has done and cannot do anything for the image of American women. She is as dull as a box of rocks and seems to be absolutely content to be a dumbassed woman completely under the control of others and that is just fine with her. She has, really nothing at all that would distinguish her as a first lady of inspiration to the American woman. She is a, "hanger on" of the Stepford tradition and seems to be proud of that or someone seems to be proud of that.

She visited a hospital recently and here is a photo of Laura looking at a small little child who is obviously very ill. She does nothing but display that practiced joker smile, that joker smile that she knows is expected before the camera for the photo op. She seems to be laughing at the child, or saying to the child, hehe eheheh everything is for my photo op, kid-look happy--joy, joy joy, everything is joy in this world, as the joker says-- in this Bush administration--never look really concerned--she is totally out of the loop this stupid woman- it is as though she is saying: I smile for the camera and do not care nor recognize what you are about. This photo says it all

Look at that pasted and practiced smile in the face of the suffering child. Does she look as though she is connecting emotionally with this child? It is all for the camera. She is so aware of the camera and what she has been programmed to do--smile that joker smile--no real connection to this sick little child and the mother. It is all about the photo op and she complies totally to what she has been told to do. A cardboard woman and a very stupid one also. Her connections with these children looks stinted and forced. She is not really connecting at all.

err--looks a little slovenly and wrinkled here. NOthing new.

More stinted--gazing down--no connection with this child at all.
