Bush defaces US flag!

US Code, Title 4, Chapter 1, Sec. 8 (g): "The flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature."

1. ...
I think that Drudge mentioned this yesterday. Honestly, I could care less, he wasn't thinking (as usual), but if the media grabbed this it could be a hysterical scandal-ette.

3. Since he pisses on the Constitution and our soldiers daily
this behavior should come as no surprise.

5. The flag is not the issue
If Bush broke Michigan law I want the most embarrasing media attention possible. But I think after all the legal attacks by the right on Clinton, wasn't it ruled that non-criminal lawsuits can only be prosecuted after a president leaves office?

8. the Michigan law is unconstitutional
Do we have to have a freeper debate on this? My only hope is that this loses Bush some support from the flag worshipping crowd.

9. If it is still on the books then how can it be unconstitutional?
Wouldn't it be amusing if someone on the left brought suit against Bush, then shrub with the help of say the ACLU appeals the law. Simultaneously upholding liberal ideas while pissing off his base for caving in to leftist.

7. How convenient...Much ado about nothing
"Any rule or custom pertaining to the display of the flag of the United States of America, set forth herein, may be altered, modified, or repealed, or additional rules with respect thereto may be prescribed, by the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the United States, whenever he deems it to be appropriate or desirable; and any such alteration or additional rule shall be set forth in a proclamation."

11. Changing rules and customs should be legistlative branch not executive
This is clearly an abuse of power by the executive branch!

14. This has already been discussed in a couple of other threads
To use John Kerry'sline, "Everything has been said, but not everyone has said it."

Here's a rather long thread from the weekend:

15. Was that really a flag?
I didn't count, but were there 50 stars on it? I didn't know if it was legal to sell little replicas of the flag for profit.

16. It's a good thing for Dubya that there's no flag-desecration amendment.
So, of course, he'd campaign against any such proposed amendment -- right?

This picture needs to make it into some political literature.

19. Bush defaces a flag . . . not because he's unpatriotic.
But because he's an idiot and didn't know he was breaking the law. Just another dumbass eruption.
