DU Clark supporters: Get a Room!!!! (some posts from today)
Edited on Wed Dec-17-03 05:26 PM by edzontar
In the thread "responding" to Clark's press conference in Boston today, some of the commentary reads more like copy from the pages of TigerBeat magazine.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=104&topic_id=930510

The consensus: Wes is "Dreamy"....

Some choice excerpts, for your enoyment, but you should go and read the thread for yourself.

"He is so handsome! ... something i must have in this lifetime...those eyes looking into mine - anybody who's had the pleasure, how did you cope?????? omg, they are gorgeous...

Can't Type...I am too spellbound with this man's brilliance! ...WHEW, Wes is really delivering the message!

It's over and was AWESOME! as usual....Does anyone have a cigarette?

I hope they repeat this!!! He was totally AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh my gosh, He is just so brilliant, handles the questions with such ease. I know I missed a ton, trying to type - I'll have to watch it again tonight.

I Love The Way He Always Gives A Little Smile After Calling On A Reporter to answer their question..."

5. the reason
the reason why they drool over superficial qualities:
1. If he had any real substance, they would talk about it.
2. Look at their websites. They have a plan to spam the internet with cult of personlity tactics by repeating ad nauseum:
a. traits that have nothing to do with governing.
b. subjective descriptions of quality.

quantity is not quality.

6. You damn right it's not, and Dean sure has alot of quantity...
when it comes to political baggage that is:

Sealed Records from his years as governor of Vermont

Polarizing remarks concerning the south...

Questions about his real progressiveness as governor of Vermont

Middle Class Tax Hikes on the Middle Class of America

Speculation from all directions concerning his lack of Military, and Forgein Policy Experience.

Questions concerning him skipping out of the Vietnam War on medical reasons and then spending several months practicing skiing in Aspin.

Questions about his electiblitiy in the General Election

Your right if its Quantity and not Quality your after then Dean's your man.

Guess you'll love this one, I'll say it again for ya:

It's time for Democrats to start thinking about this and think about it now.

13. I thought this was a Clark thread
I hate to give advice, but if Clark's campaign is about Dean then its going to fail.

14. Strange how the first instinct is to always lash out at Dean
Edited on Wed Dec-17-03 06:02 PM by Egnever
Wonder why that is? I dont know if the poster you responded to is a Dean suporter or not but I do find it odd that Dean becomes the target no matter what. A well thats the hell of being frontruner I guess.

On a side note I cought the end of that conference and Clark did as good a job as I have seen him do ever! Of course the questions I saw were of course only about the War and Sadams trial but his answers to them were damn good he gained a lot of respect with me today, I will never drop Dean for him till after the primaries but I feel a lot better after hearing the small snipet i cought about him being the only real posible alternative left in this race.

I would let the thread speak for itself. Sure there is some of that which you point out. There is also live reported coverage of his press conference/statement. Many of these supporters have been working many hours to help out and stay in tune with the campaign, why don't you cut them some slack...

11. Well I Tried to put my hand out to them yesterday, but they and
the moderators of this forum bit it off. Actually I think the slander Ads running against Dean are below the belt...but ya know when they ease off my candidate, I'll ease off theirs. This thread is just another one of their sarcastic attempts to make my candidate look stupid. All's fair in love and war, I guess...

When they cherrypick DU for inciteful comments, they're being hypocritical - because you can find the same variety of comments on Freeperville or whatever.

AFAIK this characteristic, the 'tiger beat' quality of some of Clarks' supporters' posts, is unique to his campaign.

Wait... strike that... you might also find some of it from Edwards' supporters. We just don't see too much of that here.

I agree this is inappropriate for a forum for policital discussion. If you want to circle jerk about how cute a guy is, take it to DU.

18. If the majority of the thread had been like the selected posts, I would..
agree but, seeing as they were a very small minority, it seems to me to be cherry-picking for what purpose?

19. Well, we are all ages here. I think the cutie pie comments are amusing.
Just because someone finds their candidate handsome
doesn't mean their service to his election is lessened.
I do remember similar sentiments with John Kennedy.

Frankly, its just amusing. No need for a firing squad.

RV, who wishes Viggo Mortensen would run for public
office. :)

too funny. There was some thread where Clark supporters were calling Dean supporters groupies and sheeple. How ironic.

15. Another reason why politics in the US is so effed up
More sizzle over substance. More image than ideas. Politics has officially turned into Survivor.

How else can you explain the popularity of a competant and likable ex-general, who entered the race with NO clear positions or programs, other than the fact that he's "not Bush", and speeches filled more with politico-speak than with plans or visions for what this country can become.

It's this same type of mentality that elects Jesse Venturas and Arnold Schwarzeneggers. It's just how the big media likes it: talk about money, polls and endorsements instead of the issues and pressing needs of our day.

It's utterly ridiculous, and it's sad to see our country so cowed by the media that they can substitute looks and charisma for ideas. :eyes:

22. I am not a big fan of mocking any dem candidate's supporters.
That there are a number of candidates that inspire such heartfelt responses... is a bad thing?

I find the "KoolAid" references made against one group - exceptionally obnoxious.

And I find this no better.

Just my opinion.
