Clinton faxes Hague; Will Edwards ask Shelton to recant slander?

http://www.nytimes.com/2003/12/17/international/europe/17TRIB.html?pagewanted=2&ei=5062&en=dc2acbca71a05be4&ex=1072242000&partner=GOOGLE
According to officials in The Hague who spoke on condition of anonymity, former President Bill Clinton — who has said he will not endorse anyone for the presidential nomination — weighed in on General Clark's behalf in a letter to the court.

The letter arrived after Mr. Milosevic, who is serving as his own lawyer, attacked General Clark's character by citing criticism of him by Gen. Hugh Shelton, the former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, according to officials in The Hague familiar with the testimony.

General Shelton said in October that General Clark had been asked to resign early from his NATO post because of "integrity and character issues." General Shelton then refused to elaborate.

During a break in testimony on Tuesday, Mr. Clark and the tribunal prosecutors contacted intermediaries who contacted Mr. Clinton, who swiftly faxed a brief letter to Carla Del Ponte, the chief prosecutor at the tribunal.

"Contrary to Mr. Milosevic's claim, General Wesley Clark carried out the policy of the NATO alliance, which was to stop massive ethnic cleansing in Kosovo, with great skill, integrity and iron determination," the letter stated, according to officials in The Hague.

1. Yup, Billy wants Wes
Which is, of course, his decision and right.

3. Perhaps he was his Commander in Chief?
And knows a little bit about the substance (or lack thereof) of the allegations?

4. The fact that a war criminal used Shelton's smear should make
Shelton hang his head in shame. I hope the media ask Shelton how it feels to aid and abet the defense of a war criminal.

8. Good point
The fact that Shelton made an insinuation without backing it up with facts also speaks volumes as well.

The ultimate person who has the say on this matter is Clinton, not Shelton and not any of the generals who didn't even work with Clark.

6. Shelton is not an officer and a gentlemen
His "refusal to elaborate" speaks volumes about the integrity of the man. He's a poster boy republican. Go ahead Rove, parade him out. We who served with honor know who has character and integrity.

7. Shelton's Remarks As Bad As Ads Attacking Dean

It is a clear as day --

Shelton's slander of Wesley Clark is the same as the ads attacking Howard Dean that show Bin Laden.

Shelton is supporting Edwards -- so democrats attacking other democrats in ways that only republicans know and love.

13. Is every candidate expected to
demand that every person to whom they have spoken or has given them advice recant any and every thing they have ever said that any other candidate finds disagreeable?

Just wondering.
