5. I tried
but after Bayh saying the Dems were threatened by the right and in the next breath saying that the far left "posed a threat" and then the female state host saying they won victory in 2002 by eschewing the "old Democrats," I simply can't take it any more.

I am so sick of being marginalized by my own party. :puke: For every one voter they are gaining in the mushy middle, they are probably losing in the far left and old Democrat camp. It's a wash and I don't know how they think they are going to win with such divisive rhetoric. I thought we were all on the same side. Apparently not.

7. absolutely not
the DLC has determined that the left in the "big tent" aren't important to them...they're not important...get over it...move on...Offer your concession :eyes:

8. My hope is that the Dems Progressive Caucus
gains more ground as countervailing force. The way our electoral system is set up, I'm reluctant to go third party -- at least on a national level. The fact that they are actually paying attention to us enough to call us out says that we are big and powerful enough to actually pose a threat to their Rebup-lite agenda.

26. I find his remarks pretty special
especially in light of all that I read here about DLC. Personally, I support a Dean/Kerry or visaversa but I recognise that a DLCer will probably get the nomination. Even if Dean gets it, he will certainly have to do a lot of work with the DLC or his campaign is already doomed. Lots to see in the coming months.

Also, personally, I doubt the credibility of those that tend to go on and on here in DU about candidates with no chance, policies with no future, stories with no legs and parties with little constituency.

10. There is so much passion and excitement in the DLC...
that people are jumping out of their chairs to get to the polls to vote for the Democratic agenda. They have no idea how much they need the progressive side of our Party. They are only a whisper.

14. I have thoroughly enjoyed this convention so far.
I have no clue as to why there is so much critisism from the radicals as these DLC people over and over again address the issues that seem to appeal to the radicals. That is what makes little sense to me.

It's hard to help someone while they are kicking you in the head.

15. "Radicals"?
Edited on Mon Jul-28-03 11:27 AM by Q
- Sounds like you agree with the DLC in the way they marginalize their base by referring to concerned Democrats as radicals.

- The DLC turns people off because they attack the 'left' in the same fashion as the Neocons. Well...we're not about to be the scapegoat for the New Dems. They don't seem to want to win...just kiss the boy king's ass.

- Lieberman is now defending the 'just' war in Iraq. He's either a liar or an opportunist. Wouldn't vote for either.

19. Not really, Q, I'm just a Democrat. But let me share just once more
something that I've posted about several times here in DU.

I was elected to and held political office for 21 years. Within that time I was elected and served in many capacities. I never lost an election although most of my fiercest opponents claimed to be members of my own party and my objectives for their own. They couldn't show any results or articulate any believable strategy for successes, at least that's why I think they lost to me time after time.

When I retired from elective office in 1994, I left for health reasons, I was known as someone that cared deeply for the plights of the working and poor people and as someone that held true to his campaign promises although some of my objectives were sabotaged by many of my "fiercest opponents". My "fiercest opponents" are still known mostly for waving their arms in the air, buzzing and skittering from one thing to another, much like a hummingbird or more like a gnat if you prefer.

It's just not an easy thing for many radicals to comprehend the workings of getting legislation delivered and passed. By the way, Q, I was and still am considered my much of the former constituency to be a "radical" and I am proud to wear the badge.

I never attacked the "left" as you seem to call them but I spent a considerable bit of my time defending and rebutting their attacks on me. The last I checked, defense is not considered an attack.

I might suggest, Q, that if you feel marginalized then possibly you are marginalizing yourself. I would further suggest that you run for office and we'll see what you have to offer.

I have always voted Dem, and will continue to do so, I take the time to go to my caucus and district convention, ect... and frankly I'm among those who feel attacked by these people calling me a radical, "out of touch", ect. I have never had anything at all to say about this particular group until that point, and I'm sure I'm not alone.

18. I'd Have To Know Someone's Politics
before I'd call them a radical, a conservative, a liberterain, etcetera.

The word radical is not inherently pejorative. It means to advocate fundamental change.

By the Way, Lieberman is the worst spokesman for the DLC.

Clinton is a better spokeman.

20. Al From is the head of DLC
Edited on Mon Jul-28-03 12:02 PM by indigo32
He writes Op-Eds attacking a Democratic candidate for President and all his supporters. It's true "radical" isn't inherently pejorative... but the way it's used here is.

I guess I was thinking of those Op-Eds (yes plural) not necesarilly Clinton or Lieberman.

I also truly don't agree with their strategy for winning. We got our *ss's handed to us in 2002.

23. Understood
and I appreciate your accomplishments.
I just felt extremely annoyed atthe Op-Eds by Al From and Co.
Because frankly, while I consider myself pretty far left, I also have my eyes on the prize. I'm a pragmatist who happens to DISAGREE with the DLC strategy for winning to a certain extent. Yes, I could be wrong, OR I could be right. I certianly can't see how it was productive to attack and particular candidate and all his supporters.

25. Thanks, indigo32. I did what I did and do what I do for love of the
issues and because I was not satisfied in 1972/73 that my concerns were being addressed. My contributions to the political arena now are more about consulting, lightweight organizing and voting.
