What have 14 years of GOP Presidents done for blacks? Other than a HOLIDAY
of course?
Has that pesky ERA been passed? Has crime dropped? How about those prisons? I see that the bush family is a HUGE proponet of privatizing prisons.... is that something that the GOP thinks is a good thing?
How is that head start program going? The funding I mean? Isn't it slashed? And how is that education budget doing.... especially for those lower income kids?
What does the GOP offer to people of color in our country? Why should a person of color vote republican?
And hey, how IS that welfare reform coming? 14+ years of GOP presidents and it was the Democratic one that passed it, making SURE that specific measures were in it, and that it was not impuned.
1. The fact that nobody has responded should be an indication.
They've done nothing for blacks. Unless you count the crafty way they have rolled-back any mechanisms that could have led to equality.
Someone should really take time to inventory their methods:
(1) We can start with the "War on Drugs" which was used as an excuse to ignore Equal Rights Protection and Due Process while targeting blacks and other minorities.
(2) The laws that followed stiffened sentences for drugs that were predominately used by minorities & ensured that those blacks & minorities from key states would receive felony charges so their voting rights could be removed.
(3) Racial Profiling was practiced until the NAACP & ACLU spent gobs of money to uncover the evidence and pursue the issue in court.
(4) Conservative think-tanks sponsored pseudo-science publications like the New York magazine that's responsible for Heather MacDonald's, "Are Cops Racist."
(5) Conservative think-tanks also helped produce pseudo-science like the "Bell Curve" which supported the conservative theory that blacks would not benefit from social programs like "Head Start" because they didn't have the I.Q. to take advantage of the programs. This kind of ideological-produced science was offered by conservative magazines which had the sole purpose of rolling back social programs.
(6) Then we can talk about their lack of support for Affirmative Action.
I'm sure if I give it serious thought, I'll come up with other wonderful things that Republicans have to offer blacks and other minority groups.
(7) Instead of promoting social programs, the Republicans came up with an entire penal cottage industry and built prisons all across this country in white rural areas to create jobs for people who had the least experience with minority groups. Imagine the outcome. People, who were already bigots due to their isolation, got to see minority members in cages and were able to treat them with less respect than zoo animals. What a wonderful way to foster love and understanding between the races.
