How many 'journalists' went to Rummie's party Sat. night?
So far Cokie, Timmy, and Candi have reported about being at Rummie's Christmas Party. Where any other so called 'journalists' on the guest list?

This behavior and blatant cronyism is a betrayal of the public trust. Fortunately, I think more and more people are seeing what is really going on here and are learning the truth from other sources.

2. Beltway social climbing is a root of our journalistic crisis...
in this country. Who can draw attention to this kind of thing? Where is MWO? As Jefferson and others have said, a responsible, independent press, and an informed citizenry, are essential to democracy, and we now lack that essential.

5. Email Poynter Romenesko
at:

http://www.poynter.org/contact/contact.asp

met Howard Fineman in the summer and mentioned DU--he had never heard of it, but said that journalists of every stripe tune in to the Poynter Romenesko site. Not being a jounrnalist I don't know much about Jim Romenesko but apparently journalists follow his trails.

7. She talked about Rumstedt's Dachsund
Edited on Mon Dec-15-03 09:29 AM by edzontar
Taking a crap or a piss and Rummy having to get a paper towel or something and clean it up.

I will not share my own suggestion as to how Cokie could have helped with the clean up.

6. This is nothing new
Journalists have always hobnobbed with whoever is in power. What is different is the complacency of the press and the total power of the corporate moguls who control it.

It's like an office party. You invite your clients to your office party and they invite you. That's good old fashioned ass kissing, but it's not responsible for the media brainwash we see today.

9. But you know that with this misadministration
Edited on Mon Dec-15-03 09:43 AM by DoYouEverWonder
No one, absolutely no one, gets to come to their parties unless they are a royal asskisser of the highest degree. In the past, this type of favoratism wasn't so blatant. Now we live in the days when the POTUS announces to the world that only countries who were pro war will get any contracts in Iraq. They handle the media in the same exact way. Only journalists who tow the line have any chance to get such a coveted invite. I bet Helen Thomas doesn't get invited to these parties anymore.

17. Not true....
- Journalists in the past have avoided this type of conflict of interest....at the risk of losing their independence and credibility.

18. But these people aren't journalists
and they should stop presenting themselves has such.

At best, they are news readers and at worst, they are nothing more than corporate shrills for the WH. As a matter of fact, they should just go on the WH payroll has company spokespeople. At leas then they wouldn't have to worry about the appearance of a conflict of interest.

13. Ethical journalists believe there is a line that shouldn't be crossed
You have to maintain an emotional, and professional, distance to cover the issues properly. If your source is an ethical person him/herself he/she will understand that. These people, of course, have no ethics, none.
