LaRouche qualifies for Virginia ballot; Moseley Braun does not
RICHMOND, Va. -- Democrat Carol Moseley Braun missed Friday's deadline for qualifying for Virginia's presidential primary ballot.

The former U.S. ambassador and U.S. senator failed to submit petitions to the State Board of Elections by the 5 p.m. deadline. Eight others in the Democratic field made the cutoff.

U.S. Reps. Richard Gephardt of Missouri and Dennis Kucinich of Ohio and the Rev. Al Sharpton filed their petitions the final day.

Former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean, U.S. Sens. Joseph Lieberman of Connecticut, John Edwards of North Carolina and John Kerry of Massachusetts and retired Gen. Wesley Clark had already filed their petitions.

The name of perennial presidential candidate Lyndon LaRouche, whom party officials disavow, also submitted petitions to appear on the ballot.

1. But will LaRouche actually appear on the VA ballot?
That's a bummer about CMB. I wonder if there is any reason behind it.

3. Why CMB didn't get on the ballot
Probably no reason other than Virginia's relatively steep ballot requirement & CMB's near-total (to my awareness) lack of a grassroots organization in the state. Virginia requires 10,000 verified signatures to get on a primary ballot. That's twice the maximum recommended by the DNC, so in order to have its primary qualify, the Virginia Democratic Party had to agree to collect 5000 signatures for all of the candidates (the "Sign for Nine" petition). But candidates must still turn in their own petitions and file paperwork as well.

2. That sucks.
I guess the only good news is that we don't need to worry at all about LaRouche getting anywhere near the nomination.
