Special Interest Feeding Frenzy - Kerry Ad
http://www.johnkerry.com/ Second spot down, below the Webcast promotion.

Washington, DC – John Kerry hit the airwaves today with a new television ad in Iowa. The 30-second ad highlights his commitment to the people of Iowa that he will continue to stand up to the “special interest feeding frenzy” in Washington.

The ad, which airs statewide in Iowa, emphasizes Kerry’s record of doing what is right by fighting big oil, drug companies and other powerful special interests.

Kerry spokesperson Stephanie Cutter said, “John Kerry is the one candidate who will break the grip of special interests in Washington, put the nation back on the path to prosperity, and beat George W. Bush. As President, Kerry will begin to change the landscape for drug companies and big oil lobbyist, and fight for clean air and water, and affordable health care for all Americans.”

Text of Ad:

Announcer: There is a special interest feeding frenzy going on in Washington. A $130 billion dollar giveaway to the drug companies. John Kerry led in the fight against it. Selling out of the Alaska wilderness to big oil. John Kerry stopped it.

As President, John Kerry will stand up to the drug companies to lower the cost of prescriptions. Take on the insurance industry to finally get health care reform. And break the grip of big oil to make America energy independent. John Kerry. The courage to do what’s right.

John Kerry: I’m John Kerry and I approved this message.

1. John Kerry has no capital on this issue
Coming from Kucinich or Sharpton it would resonate.
Coming from John Kerry it rings hollow and hypocritical.

You do know that Kerry has a lifetime liberal rating closest to Wellstone of all the candidates, don't you?

You do know that Kerry never took corporate pac money throughout his Senate career, don't you?

beholden to different special interests.
He's still a Big Money Whore.

I could be wrong - but think that has been a career long stand.

14. uh oh...
an elected official whose 'corporate interest'... means... listening to his wife.

Very compelling argument/criticism.

19. She doesn't listen to him though
When someone told him Teresa *had* to vote for him, she was his wife; he said "You don't know my wife!" I don't think their money has anything to do with anything. They both just love life, the money doesn't even seem to enter into it.

21. my response
was intended to be sarcastic... since a poster was suggesting that the Senators wife was evidence of his taking corporate dollars and being bought. (wasn't sure from your response whether I hadn't been clear in my earlier post.)

27. Kerry was bought on his wedding day
like the Big Money Whore he is.
Heinz 57 just wanted to make sure they would still be getting the Big Catering contracts on every level of Government.

US soldiers can eat a lot of ketchup...

23. Kerry has his own active Corporate Interest and ties
Even Dick Cheney sold his Haliburton stock before running.

One could say that Kerry is a puppet of Big Condiments...

There are A LOT of government contracts in the food and catering industry.
And a Washington feeding frenzy just isn't complete without a little ketchup.

22. Facts don't matter in campaigns
only popular perception does.

And no matter what you say about your candidate, no one who has been in Congress as long as Kerry has can get away with attacking the Washington feeding frenzy unless they happen to be "the maveric" John McCain.

Kerry's biggest problem has been that he has never figured out how to play to Media perception and popular opinion rather than playing against them.
It's why he comes across as a hollow candidate.

28. He works with John McCain
On ALOT of issues. He's known as stubborn as a mule in Congress. And he doesn't come off as a hollow candidate, he comes off as intelligent and Presidential. That seems to offend some people who prefer average and folksy. I'm not qualified to be President and sure don't want a President who is "just like me".

29. I thought his recent antics have compromised his dignity
Between riding a motorcycle on stage for Jay Leno to cursing in RollingStone, Kerry is trying and failing to recreate his stuffy image into that of a loose and wild hipster.

It feels stiff, forced, faked, contrived, patronizing, and cheap.
His stunts are a metaphor for his clueless New England blueblood campaign.

Now if you want some wealthy blueblood in office then you're in luck because we already have one.

30. I don't resent money
There are plenty of fine decent people who happen to have money. Some of the greatest things done for this country were done under Presidents with money. It sounds like you're stereotyping people with money so you can't imagine them actually having fun riding motorcycles, windsurfing, reading to little kids, all the things Kerry does all the time. They're just people. Some put the money in proper perspective, like the Kerry's and Dean's; some don't, like the Bush's.

10. One of the problems over the past ten years
has been the disappearance of the more hard core new/deal fighting liberal dems (they were still in force fighting the reagan onslaught in the eighties.) I would agree with you about many in Congress today. But Kerry has been a more true fighter - resisting many of the big money pushes before congress - than most.

Either one believes that any elected official will become corrupt (in which case, throw them out as soon as they are elected).... or we believe that some will resist those pushes and pulls... and we support them and try to find more and put those folks in power. Sadly the party, instead, has been playing safer and safer (and going after more and more corporate dollars)... and as a result we have fewer and fewer fighters.

Sen. Kerry, imo, is one of the good guys and still fighting hard guys in the senate.

I haven't jumped behind any candidate yet, but think that Kerry would be a great president. Also think that your generalized attack might fit on a number of folks (dems included) on the Hill - but it doesn't quite fit Kerry.

This ad is not hollow. It comes from the one candidate that has the record to back it up.

18. Sounds like a great ad to me.
I like the fact that it focuses on the positive things Kerry has done and will do and highlights some of the most egregious acts of the Republicans in Congress and the current mis-administration.

here is a good ad with substance behind it. John Kerry's record is unblemished. He has the strongest voice in this area.

So what happens, a fellow "democrat" smears the ad and Senator Kerry.

Facts Dink ydem!

Senator Kerry is the best to lead this country.

Insider/Outsider. What do these terms mean? The best man is the best man. Gore is an insider. Kennedy was an insider. If they are a Democratic Presidential Candidate in 2004, they are an insider.

I am DemOutWest and I also approve this ad.

25. I didn't like the ad
The ad does say what Kerry will do. Only what he has done.

Kerry should stop trying to sell his resume and start running a campaign for President. That is why he is losing.
