Interesting article about Dean and how he may have peaked too soon (4/03)

This article ran shortly after toppling of Saddam Hussein’s statue in Iraq. It's fun going over articles printed in April that basically say Dean's peaked......

Dean’s bid faces post-war tightrope walk

By CHRISTOPHER GRAFF The Associated Press

MONTPELIER — Howard Dean has enjoyed a three-month ride most presidential candidates only dream about: He has gained strong support in early caucus and primary states; campaign contributions are flowing in, and his passionate anti-war speeches to key groups have won rave reviews.

Now, though, comes the truly hard part: convincing fellow Democrats that his surge did not end with the toppling of Saddam Hussein’s statue and regime.

2. I heard he may peak too soon next November too.
I mean, what happens if he peaks an hour before the polls close? What then? I'm telling you, it's a dangerous thing to peak too soon.

3. Opinions vary. But one thing I do know,
There isn't a single candidate that wouldn't give their eye teeth to be in Governor Dean's position right now, having people wonder if they have peaked too soon.

I don't see people eating crow, I see some pretty good analysis.

Especially:

Arnie Arnesen, a one-time candidate for governor of New Hampshire and now a radio talk show host, said she thinks it is too early to say the war is no longer an issue in the presidential campaign.

“It’s not about the war,” said Arnesen. “It’s never been about the war. It’s about the day after the war. It’s about finding the peace.

“Everyone knew Bush would get a bounce because the war ended, but the minute the war ended his job multiplied 1,000 fold,” she said. “The story is the chaos and the cost of repairing.”

edit: not bad for early April, at the height of statue frenzy.
