How soon before he is promoted?
12/11/03 SGT. JOE GASSNER

I am a soldier, originally with the Oregon National Guard, now deployed in Iraq with the U.S. Army's Bravo Company, 52nd Engineers, attached to the 101st Airborne Division in Mosul. I recently was sent an Internet link to a KOIN-TV feature called "Guard Wife." I am getting rather tired of hearing how bad we have it here.

"My husband is losing weight," one spouse complained. Whose fault is that? We have three cafes, two dining facilities and an Iraqi gut truck that drives right through our camp! Granted, we have to drive to the dining facilities for meals, but you can always get a ride or have someone bring you back a plate. It's not that hard.

I have been on a weight-training program and have been gaining a lot of weight. Soldiers need to take some personal responsibility for their actions. I am sorry the families interviewed for the TV report did not have an adequate time to prepare. It is, however, part of the business that we are in -- an unfortunate part, but a part nonetheless.

(I don't understand why people don't understand the concept
of waging an illegal war based on a foundation of lies, lies
and more lies.

If Hooley's report on Ft Hood makes it to
the paper, it will be very interesting: poorly equipped
Oregon soldiers in training; rifles are bare metal handles
that heat up so much they can't hold them; moldy barracks etc

I wonder if they will be given Kevlar or was that money
spent on the turkey trip and bringing the Iraqi orchestra
over here to entertain Republicans?
