i love Charles Rangel
why so many attacks on rangel ? i wish he had endorsed kerry. but the guy is one of the best we have in congress. i would actually like to see him as democratic leader in the house (and speaker hopefully). he does a good job of going after the right wing everytime i see him. he was also the first to have the idea to get hillary to run for senate. he knew she would kick gop ass and she did.

5. Agreed... both on Rangel
and not only on Rangel but this newest trend to begin to play "diss the democrat" if an endorsement doesn't flow to a specified candidate.

6. I've always liked him and would feel the same no matter who he endorses.
He's witty, smooth, and always sticks it to the goopers on the talk shows. He really gave them hell during the impeachment. And the people of his district, who know him best, have elected him 17 times.

What's not to like?

7. If he's so great and grande
why did he attack Al Gore today just before endorsing Clark?

Yeh, attacking our elected Democratic President, now THERE'S a classy man.

After today's attacks, Rangel is a disgrace in my eyes.

10. If he's our elected President, then why isn't he in the White House?
Get over it & move on. It ain't going to change, all we can do is look to the next election & right a wrong.

8. I have one good reason not to like Rangel
and that's not because I'm a Deanie.

I personally think he's played with the lives of our youth by even suggesting a draft. I know he did it to point out the problems with the draft, but when draft time come around, guess who the Bush admin will be quoting.

If he's willing to play politics with the draft then I don't care about him.

11. Kephra, as a veteran with a teenage son
I am dead-set against the draft. And has been discussed on this board, Rangel's proposal strikes fear into the heart of every Republican because they don't want THEIR kids to go and fight the wars, only OURS. That's the beauty of his proposal. It would mean the Repubs kids would be just as likely to be drafted and therefore it ain't gonna happen and it makes the Repubs look like the 'patriotic' hypocrites that they are.

Read a little deeper on the subject and I think you'll understand what I'm talking about.

16. How Can Any Progressive Person Oppose The Draft?
The draft is a wonderful concept, if it is truly egalitarian and blind to wealth or power. A citizen's army is a wonderful idea, as opposed to a mercenary force that doesn't have accountability to the people. If the people themselves are called upon to fight or not to fight, then war is no longer a sporting event seen passively on a TV screen but a reality that may involve the ultimate sacrifice for the average citizen or a member of that citizen's family. The French Foreign Legion was organized precisely because it could be sent into harm's way into far flung colonial wars without upsetting the average citizen. In its early days, it was comprised of foreigners or criminals escaping punishment, people for whom no one mourned. The anti-war movement during Vietnam would not nearly have been so loud or effective without the draft. Personally, I see the draft as something we desperately need, so that the average citizen feels that their life could become personally involved in the decisions made by any President they elect.

12. Me, too
And for decades before I ever heard of Wes Clark or Howard Dean. Rangel is a great Democrat. Gore and Dean brought this animus on themselves.

13. Rangel has earned the right to endorse and to be listened to
He's one of a handful of Democrats who can make me question what I believe. If he's endorsed Clark, then that means Clark is better than some give him credit for, not that Rangel is worse. I don't have to reach the same conclusion as he does, but if he says it, I will at least consider it carefully.

Those who turn on Rangel for endorsing a candidate different than yours... Oh never mind.

15. Look at what Dean is doing!
Everyone speaks of how Bush has polarized America. Look at what the Gore , Dean partnership has done to the Democratic party. They will not only polarize America as Bush has done but they are setting out to polarize the democratic party.

This was supposed to be a time of unity instead this jughead Dean starts speaking out against Clinton along with Bush.

This guy dean is slime ball.:puke:
