WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A Pentagon audit of Halliburton, the oil services firm once run by Vice President Dick Cheney, has found evidence the company may have overcharged for fuel it brought into Iraq from Kuwait, military sources said on Thursday.

The sources told Reuters that Halliburton unit Kellogg Brown and Root, which got a no-bid U.S. government contract to rebuild Iraq's oil industry in March, had been notified of the evidence by the Pentagon's Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA).

WASHINGTON - A Pentagon (news - web sites) investigation has found overcharging and other violations in a $15.6 billion Iraq (news - web sites) reconstruction contract awarded to Vice President Dick Cheney (news - web sites)'s former company, a defense official said Thursday.

An ongoing audit of Halliburton's Kellogg, Brown & Root subsidiary found substantial overcharging for fuel and other items, the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity. The problems go beyond overcharging, the official said, declining to elaborate.

The Defense Contract Audit Agency has talked with KBR executives during the audit, the official said.

A KBR spokeswoman, Patrice Mingo, did not immediately return telephone and e-mail messages seeking comment.

Democratic Reps. Henry Waxman of California and John Dingell of Michigan have accused KBR of price gouging for gasoline used in Iraq. The two congressmen said Halliburton charges the Army $2.65 a gallon for gas under a no-bid contract, while another Pentagon agency imports fuel from Kuwait to Iraq at a cost of $1.09 to $1.15 per gallon.

Shit, people have been screaming from the rooftops for months that the whole Kellogg Brown& Root contract is nothing but a FUCKING tax payer rip-off. You mean that some of those Senators are now looking to investigate?!?!?! I guess better late than never. Lets see how the media whores spin this one toward the back pages and then obscurity.

6. No mention of Bush succeeding in passing protection
to companies that are war profiteering...That means Halliburton can charge 5.00 a gallon for fuel and we can''t prosecute for profiteering!
451 dead troops that we know of. Thousands upon thousands of casualties and tens of thousands of dead Iraqis so that Halliburton can screw taxpayers out of their money.

No one said Jack when Bush successfully got this passed now we are getting what he wants to give us. Every single day.

7. This is typical
as much as I hate to say it, this is very typical of this corporate run administration. 200 BILLION DOLLARS TO REBUILD IRAQ WHILE OUR OWN schools and medical coverage gets cut. This is just vulgar. Not that were helping Iraqis. But the fact that the administration is using Iraq to pay off his donators at our expense, and also the fact that it is OUR money hes cutting to rebuild another country. Ive always believed you take care of your own first, then help others ,after you make sure the guys who are paying the bills (the people)are in good shape
