Lynch Mob Mentallity
American History is riddled with cases of Lynch Mob Mentallity.

The way Native Americans were slaughtered is perhaps the first and most damning.

African slavery and the ensuing civil war ranks right up there.

The KKK.

The Wild Wild West was secured by Lynching in some cases.

Arabia now has the Mob's attention's.

It is our solemn duty to eliminate Lynch Mobs from our country. Liberty and Justice for All, ya know?

1. I'll give you all of those except slavery
Slavery was mainly motivated by greed (free labor - the dream of any conservative) and hatred.

But everything else, I'll give you, was Lynch Mob mentality.

4. The point is: it's as American as air pollution
Edited on Sun Jul-27-03 01:30 PM by BeFree
It's not "these guys". It's us, the US. Large parts of American History is written in the blood of other humans who were considered to be sub-human.

The Iraqi invasion is the newest chapter.

The PNAC chapter is being written today. It may become a footnote, or it may become the final chapter. It is kinda up to us, ain't it?

7. Human
It's not an American attitude, it's a human one. Ask your Jewish friends about the term "pogrom."

Could be included in the KKK, but it really is another sad chapter, is it not?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the American People actively shun the news of Jewish concentration camps in WW 2?

5. Rockefeller, Carnegie, et. al. sending out Pinkertons to kill strikers.
That always gets left out of lists of American atrocities for some reason.

Rumors of Lynching Prompt Investigation Into Black Man's Hanging Death in Rural South

BELLE GLADE, Fla. (AP) - Not long after the family of Feraris "Ray" Golden found his dead body dangling from a tree outside his grandmother's home, ugly suspicions began to surface.

Police concluded Golden committed suicide, hanging himself with a work shirt as a noose. But relatives say that's impossible; they claim the 32-year-old, who was black, was found with his hands tied behind his back.

Rumors began swirling that Ray Golden was lynched.

Friends say Golden was dating a white policeman's daughter in this rural farming community of about 15,000, divided almost equally between black and white residents.

11. You must also be "somewhat new" to this board...
or you would know that Dem Byrd has repeatedly expressed regret about his LONG AGO KKK membership.

Nice try...

12. Yep, that's a part of our history
But Senator Byrd learned the errors of his ways. It is he he stood up in the Senate demanding to know just WTF America was doing by invading Iraq. I'd much rather follow a reformed criminal than a hypocritical chickenhawk.

13. For future reference...
You might find that a less melodramatic, wide-eyed tone will make you more believable.

it was, at least, a little more ambitious than usual.

16. Hypocrites
Edited on Sun Jul-27-03 02:38 PM by rosey_vomisa
I bet your pardon, and thank you for your "kind" responses. I have been in this country for a few years (from Scandinavia). I assumed Senator Byrd was a Republican.

I could find no evidence of an apology from Byrd anywhere -- believe me, I looked. If someone could provide me with a link, I would be grateful. Also, if this horrible man is so apologetic, why is he still using such vulgar words?

Perhaps we are a little more innocent liberals in Scandinavia, that we do not harbour hypocrites in our ranks.

It is nice that you attack my credibility instead of answering my question.

14. Pssst. Come here. Bush acts like he is a Klansman every day
Better to worry about the current people squatting in the White House who make Klan sympathizers love Bush so much, rather than an old man who realized he was wrong and admitted so a long time ago. Don't you think?

Don

17. Consistency
I agree it is better to concentrate on the here and now. So, why is this thread dwelling on past wrongs? Slavery was horrible, but it was ended. If you are not worried about the past wrongs of Byrd, why are you still worried about slavery, especially when there have been a million apologies for it? (Since you think that is all it takes to absolve someone from years of racial nastiness.)

I am only asking for consistency.

I think it is not mutually exclusive that we keep history in mind as we concentrate on the future!
