The President Dean World Tour
If elected, Howard Dean said he would do a World goodwill tour to patch up already damaged relations with our allies. I think this is a wonderful idea because as it stands, our longtime allies and associates are going to treat America like a pariah state if Bush keeps carrying on like he is.

Your take?

1. We can only hope
that they'll still let a POTUS in the front door.

4. actually…
he said he'd go on tour prior to his inauguration so the real question is whether they'd open the door for a POTUS-elect.

I join you in hoping that the answer is yes.

2. If Howard is already making his reservations-

He'd better not get himself locked into any non-refundable fares.

i.e. a "President" Dean Tour will never happen.

However- The first thing that the next non-repuke president will have to do is apologize to what's left of the world.

The Lil'Dictator's personal valet.

3. I Was Thinking The Same Thing Yesterday
He's (or whomever wins the dem. nomination) going to have to repair a lot of damage. I think most of the world realizes the u.s. foreign policy currently in place is prez. AWOL's disaster and not typical of u.s. foreign policy in general.

5. Whoever takes over for Bush..
...HAS to go on a Goodwill tour. Bush has screwed up so much that if we don't do this, it'll only keep festering in the minds of our allies.

Frankly, if the new Prseident goes to the UN soon after inauguration, admits poor American judgement to the world community and apologizes to the world for Bush's actions, they would fall all over themselves to help restore goodwill AND they'd pitch in to help Iraq bounce back.

6. I think it's a very good idea
and he's going to get criticized for it if he starts one day before inauguration day.

As much as I dislike Bush, we should only have one President at a time.

11. It's far better than what Reagan's team did in 1981.
Edited on Thu Dec-11-03 10:43 AM by Cascadian
Remember when the hostages in Iran were released the moment Reagan took the oath of office? That was negotiated way by Reagan's people way before the ceremony. No tthat it was bad but the timing of it all. I don't see any harm in Dean doing damage control before he takes his oath. It can only help. I am dead certain that there are people in Europe and other parts of the World who are hoping Dean wins.

9. Excellent idea for whichever candidate becomes president
But will Dean bring Carly Simon on his tour? That would probably help.
