Novak on attack against Dean - calls him 'loose lips'
http://www.townhall.com/columnists/robertnovak/rn20031211.shtml

It was bad enough when Howard Dean, interviewed on National Public Radio Dec. 1, spread a conspiracy theory that George W. Bush ignored Saudi Arabian warnings of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. It was worse Dec. 7 on "Fox News Sunday," when the Democratic presidential front-runner neither apologized nor repudiated himself for passing along this urban legend.

None of Dean's frantic opponents for the nomination immediately took him to task, not wanting to defend the hated Republican president. A week later, however, they contemplated whether the doctor posed too easy a general election target for President Bush. Al Gore's surprise endorsement boosts Dean among Democrats but surely does not make him more electable.

A half-hour after Dean alarmed party regulars over television Sunday, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton on NBC titillated worried Democrats by hesitating at closing the door for 2004. Although her prospects of being nominated for president remain minimal, normally sober Democrats are looking toward Mrs. Clinton in 2004 because of apprehension about what Dean could do to the party.

Unlike George McGovern in 1972, Dean's core problem is not ideological. It is loose lips: fabricating the story of a patient impregnated by her father, seeking support from pickup truck drivers with Confederate flags, and seemingly exulting in his draft deferment for a bad back. Nothing so worries old-style Democratic politicians, however, as proclaiming the apocryphal warning from Saudi Arabia.

So many DUers are spouting the same things that Robert Novak is in this article.

And yet they wail like children when you remind them they're pushing the Republican agenda.

13. Nope. Certain things are facts and certain things are opinions.
You can list 3 facts and 2 opinions and only the facts will match exactly. However, some of us Dems have warned what the GOP will say and use and forewarned is forearmed.

Get your pals at the White House to open up to the 9/11 Commission. Then we will see if the Saudiis did or did not warn the regime.

11. jesus, "loose lips" from the guy with loose teeth?
there is little doubt that bush had warnings about a terrorist attack on US soil a month before 9/11. even the congressional investigating committee said so.

12. Should I include my own name and email with this retort
Comments to the columnist:

About Dean and loose lips

Dean said that he did not know and your interesting cut and paste job on the original NPR comments are humorous in and of themselves.

The fact of the matter is that after Pearl Harbor our government was able to hold a commision and recommend action to prevent such a tragedy again.

The 9/11 commision stonewalling by the Bush administration breeds this sort of nonsense conspiracy theory talk. If they hear this stuff mentioned in the press and someone says even a candidate says, "we don't know" because of the stonewalling, the Bush administration has only itself to blame.

If the man had said that he believed Bush was to blame for 9/11 then that would have been a different story all together.

Even though the right wing is trying to make like that was what he said, it was not.

This is coming from a Democrat who is leaning toward Kerry and Clark by the way (not a Deanie).

This is really laughable from a real traitor with loose lips that outed a CIA agent to further his own column and the administration's agenda.

20. I hear enough of it everyday, right here
As if that is ALL many are ever exposed to - and they absorb it as reality, it seeps into their worldview. This is exactly the problem with the Right's domination of the media, it isn't like you have to search for what they are spewing all over the place.

15. Isn't this a form of 'projection'?
Well, let him think what he wants. His analysis is flawed, but fundamentally, his analysis doesn't affect the DNC, unless suddenly Democratic party elders are suddenly allowing Novak to call some shots in the party.
