Clarkie: I'd be proud and loud to support Dean for President
Edited on Wed Dec-10-03 11:28 PM by Bucky
I'm looking for some amens from my fellow nonDeanies.

I'm skeptical about Dean's chances in the general election. I'm doubly concerned that he and his supporters here on DU seem to be blind to some of his liabilities as a candidate (altho that might just be naive of me). I have concrete concerns about his ability to work well with Congress and act as CINC in the current anti-terrorism crisis.

But let me be extremely clear about this: if Doctor Dean is nominated I will loudly and proudly fight tooth, nail, and capella to see him elected. I will vote for him, put his bumper stickers on my car for him, nag my coworkers endlessly to overcome any concerns they might have about him.

While I will give Dean and his candidacy holy hell in every argument I have with his supporters right up until the eventual nominee is clear to me, my support for the eventual nominee, even if it's Ralph Nader, is not even a question.

Deanies, please don't mistake my arguments against him for a lack of 100% support for removing the idiot. I think Dean'd do passably well as president. Surely a man of science is capable of learning on the job. Undoubtedly he's a zillion times better than the current president.

I'd like to ask all my fellow Democrats to reassure these Dean "cultists" ;) that no one's gonna default to Bush because our original candidates don't get the prized chair at the convention.

1. That's damned neighborly of you.
I'm for Dean, but I like all of the candidates for different reasons, except maybe Lieberman.

3. I've consistently said... I'll bust my ass for any Dem candidate
I don't see others in the party as enemies or people who need to be stopped. I don't see a need to torpedoe campaigns. I dislike several of the candidates but I won't even have to 'hold my nose' to vote and campaign for them because I love this country, I love liberty, and I know Bush is far more foul than anyone we can come up with.

4. Thanks.
I can understand your electability concerns, although I think he's the best candidate for base turnout.

5. I plan to give the max to whichever candidate is leading after March 2, 04
I plan to give the maximum ($2,000) to whichever candidate is leading after March 2, 2004, but I hope that either

1) Howard Dean revises his tax-position to maintain some tax-cuts for the middle-class

or

2) the nominee is someone else

I don't believe most Americans will vote for someone who promises to raise their taxes.

6. Thanks for that!!!
We have extra KoolAid mix to help ease the pain when the time comes!!!!

That being said...back at you....I will work my ass off for Clark if he gets the nod! Or anyone else!

The candidates are not going to loose the election....we are!

Until we understand that we need to fight tooth and nail for every election, the repugs will beat us every time!!!

If the last ten years hasn't taught us that they play for keeps...than I dont know what can get through to those who don't get it!!!

WHomever the candidate is...we have to support them and work for them...and everyone else down the ticket!!!

I defy one person to tell me they can't give $20...or 40 hours to the party in the upcoming campaign!!! Anyone who can't isn't really in this to win and can't really be that concerned about the next election!

If we do these things....no dem candidate can lose!!!!!

I just hope that the feeling is mutual. I am inclined to think that it is. We need to get Bush the hell out of the White House.

9. I like both Clark and Dean.
Both men impress me, though I prefer Clark. If Dean wins the nomination, I will sulk for a day or two, then happily paste a Dean sticker on my truck and ride the Dean machine straight to the White House.

11. We Can't Get Caught Up In Cults Of Personality
We can't allow our emotions to rule our better judgement as the stakes are far too high.

That goes for Clark supporters.
That goes for Dean supporters.
That goes for every Democrat.

Personally, I find Wesley Clark to be one of the most remarkable individuals ever to run for political office. Personally, although I admire Dean's ideas, his smugness kind of turns me off on a superficial level.

But when I awaken to the fact that our country is in the hands of the likes of Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Ashcroft, Cheney, Rove, the Kissinger-clone L. Paul Bremer, Scalia, and their pet monkey, I come to the realization that the emotion of traditional American politics, with the balloons, the kissing of the wife, the petting of the dog, the fondling of the cat, the show and the fluff and the sporting-event-like atmosphere no longer has any place. We can't afford to fall in love with a candidate. Dean supporters have to be ready to make a complete break with any fondness for Dean if someone else gets the nomination. Clark supporters must be ready to forget Clark ever existed. The same goes for Kerry, Gephardt, or the others. We have to remember what this is all about. We have to be ready to support whoever the nominee is with everything we've got. The stakes are far too high.

13. All for one and one for all ...
And all working like hell for the nominee because nothing is more important than getting rid of these thieves, thugs and religious crazies for good!
