Will Dean hurt our congressional chances?
Will any democratic candidate running from the south or midwest or in some of the more conservative parts of the country support Dean? Would they want to campaign and be seen with him? If not, that screws the party two-ways. Dean won't get the support of congressional candidates to drive up the vote. And the congressional candidates won't get the support of a mainstream viable candidate. Dean could bring the party down with him if he loses spectacularly.

1. why wouldn't they want to be seen with him?
His only "liberal" positions are his unqualified support for abortion rights and his qualified, Johnny-come-lately support for civil unions (not marriage) for gays. Aside from those issues he is your classic centrist, fiscally responsible, more-or-less pro-business Democrat.

2. I think Congressional candidates in the south
have a tough row to hoe. I know that here in the 3rd Congressional District of AR (where even Bill Clinton couldn't get elected!), the Dems didn't even run a candidate against the incumbant last time, which totally disgusted me. This time it looks like Jan Judy will run, and I plan to support her to the fullest. The incumbant gets his main backing from the Wal-Mart people, so it will be a tough race. Personally, I don't see any Democratic presidental candidate as being helpful here, not even Arkansan Gen. Clark.

3. What's our current excuse?
How many seats did we win in the last election? Who was to blame for that failure? We lost seats during Clinton's first term and he was (IMO) one of our best presidents. I don't get this logic.

4. Yes
A democratic canididate who is garnering 9% or less of the democratic primary support would be much more effective.

8. Zell Miller already has
I could see desperate democrats in southern states doing that.

15. given that Zell did this before a dem candidate was nominated
it is hard to blame it on Dean (as this post/thread) implies. I haven't seen other southern dems rush to do the same as Zell. His move appears to be more of a continuation of a quirky set of moves - unique to him - that are to serve his own motivation (though I am not sure what that motivation is, given that he is not running for reelection.)

16. Zeb Mill has shown his true colors
He helped stop real opposition to Bush's agenda on many occasions. Glad he is retiring, but he had to get one last viscous stab in. His book should have been called A Snake in the Grass.

6. Will <insert candidate> hurt our congressional chances?
The same question could be asked regarding any of the candidates. And it's a question that can only be answered with aggressive GotV, countering corporate media spin, and bringing people into the process. Dean does well on all fronts, and he's demonstrating that he's going to help other Dems get elected as well.

Well, let's find out , shall we???

Yep, I think it's safe to say that a Democratic candidate running in a conservative part of the Midwest will support Dean AND want to be seen with him.

Try again later.
