Drug Costs Under New Medicare VS Buying From Canada-Letter to Editor Help

Neighbor commented how glad she was that Bush had provided drug coverage to seniors. She thought it was 100% coverage (too much Faux).

This has prompted me to write a letter to the editor.

Basically, I researched Canadian drug prices for an elderly friend of mine and found that drugs that cost her approximately 350.00 per month could be purchased for around 170.00 in Canada.

I want to write a letter that compares her annual out-of-pocket costs, currently 4200.00 if purchased in the US with savings from buying from Canada and what her total annual out-of-pocket costs will be under the new Medicare bill.

Can someone help me with that last figure and provide a breakdown of costs?

Maybe other DUers will pick up on this idea and write their own letters!

1. New Medicare Drug gives $1500 on first 5520 of cost (5100 drug+420 Prem)

If you have 500 of drug cost, you get 75% of 500less 250 deductible, or 162.5 back for the 420 dollar premium.

Meanwhile GOP PR adds to the 27% coverage (1500 over 5520) a pulled out of the air 20% that the drug companies are going to rush to put into your pocket by cutting their prices - even though the bill says the gov can not put any pressure on the drug companies to lower their price,

I suggest NH, Springfield Ma, and Boston, Ma have the right idea in simply -in NH - via web site helping you fill out forms to get Canadian drugs mailed to you, and in the two cities in Massachusetts, actually having the city buy drugs from Canada, telling the Bush folks to see them in Court.
